COOKING COURSE TIME FOR LIME, KOH LANTA
Time For Lime is a cooking school on the beach(!) with a relaxed atmosphere that fits perfectly with the chill island vibe that Koh Lanta has to offer. Following a cooking class here is therefore highly recommended. Under the guidance of experienced and sociable chefs you can follow various cooking courses.
Because you will make your own (sometimes unknown) Thai dishes you also will take a closer at Thai food in a different way resulting in trying something new easier. In this way you will get to know Thailand a little bit better.

Where to follow a cooking course at Koh Lanta?
That’s not so difficult, at Time For Lime of course! Besides the passion for good food and cooking, Time For Lime is unique in its kind because part of the income goes to Lanta Animal Welfare. This is a shelter for homeless, sick or injured dogs and cats on Koh Lanta. Time For Lime is from the same owner as Lanta Animal Welfare, Junie Kovacs.
Here (link) you can read more about our visit to Lanta Animal Welfare.
When you follow a cooking class at Time For Lime you will not only learn all about Thai cuisine but you will also do something beautiful for the dogs and cats on Koh Lanta! So feel free to order that extra beer or cocktail, after all it’s for the animals ;).
Time For Lime Happy Hour: 17.30 – 18.30

Making cocktails!
Speaking of cocktails, the Time For Lime Mojitos are famous on Koh Lanta. The cocktails are mentioned in several travel books and now also on Thailand Magazine! Here you can not only drink cocktails but also learn to make them yourself during the cocktail classes! In one hour you will find out the secret recipe, try to imitate the Time For Lime Mojitos and of course test = drink it! Imagine yourself with a cocktail in your hand at the beach located in front of Time For Lime!
Costs Cocktail Class: 440 baht per person.

Cooking course at Time For Lime, our experience
Besides drinking delicious cocktails, you can’t leave Time For Lime until you’ve followed a cooking course here. Time For Lime was once Koh Lanta’s first cooking school! Of course we also followed a cooking class here. What you will learn to cook during the course you can see in advance on the website. Every day of the week except on Sunday (closed), there is a fixed menu. We were there on a Friday and after the aprons were put on we started working on the following Thai dishes:
Mieng Kham | Green Curry (Paste) | “Laab” Fresh Herb Salad | Stir-fried Red Curry | Fried Rice | Sweet or Fruit
On other days you can learn to make Pad Thai, spring rolls or papaya salad (Som Tam). During the cooking course we learned a lot about the origin of the ingredients. We also got an explanation about the cutting method. With some of the ingredients you can tell by the way it is sliced whether it is for taste only or whether you actually have to eat it! Very handy to know!

Kill it!
Besides the fact that we worked really hard we also had a lot of fun during the cooking course, regularly you could hear a big shout thru the kitchen with the words kill it!!! Of course nobody was murdered but the chef crushed a garlic in one movement with the big cook’s knife. It feels pretty cool to have such a big knife in your hands by the way!
Each of us had our own gas burner and after the chef showed us the dish, we went to work out the recipe ourselves. Of course it always looks very easy when the chef does it! But believe us, creating your own curry is hard work. But eventually after all the hard work you will have a really good tasting curry! Fortunately, besides the chef, there were other staff who helped where necessary.

Be creative – Serve it your way
Nice was that you could also be creative yourself, in previous cooking courses the chef determined what the food on the plate should look like. At Time For Lime you can know for yourself how to serve the dish. There are all kinds of plates and bowls and you can go completely free. In addition to being very creative, we were also very fanatical and secretly both of us liked our own dish the best… That was until we saw the result of the chef of course….

After prepping, cooking and serving, it was time to eat. We were quite proud of our dishes because they tasted delicious! By the way you get the recipes from what you learned and made during the cooking class so you don’t have to write anything down during the evening. Nowadays we cook the learned dishes at home – Thanks for the knowledge Time For Lime! Aroy Mak Maaak! (very tasty!).

How to get to Time For Lime
Time For Lime is located on the beautiful Klong Dao Beach on the west side of Koh Lanta. This is near the Saladan Pier (max 15 minutes by scooter). When we were at Time For Lime for the cooking course heavy rain showers came falling from the sky, a real Thai tropical downpour. But that was no problem because when you book a cooking course at Time For Lime you will be brought and picked up from (almost) every hotel on Koh Lanta! So we were just picked up at the Twin Lotus Resort. Once you’re at Koh Lanta you don’t have to think at all about how to get to Time For Lime!

Koh Lanta is a lovely island to explore by scooter or car. You bypass the high taxi prices and you can visit nice places at your leisure. We have a very good experience with Lanta Sky. You can rent a scooter or car from them that they bring and pick up again when it suits you best. If you want to rent a car you have to leave your passport, that is Koh Lanta everywhere. Renting a scooter without your passport is often possible when you pay a few thousand baht deposit. Are you going to Mu Koh Lanta National Park? Then ask for a powerful scooter, especially if you want to go with two people on a scooter. The roads to the National Park go up a lot and that calls for some extra power.
