THE WESTIN GRANDE SUKHUMVIT
The Westin Grande Sukhumvit is a magnificent 5-star hotel located in the Asok district of Bangkok. A great area with many nice things to do and see. Our choice for The Westin turned out to be a very good one. This because our stay in this hotel was heavenly, just like the beds by the way!

The location of The Westin Grande Sukhumvit
The Westin Grande Sukhumvit is located in Bangkok’s Asok district. A big advantage of staying in Asok is that it’s well served by public transport. From the Westin you are literally within in five minutes at BTS station Asok as this sky train station is right opposite the hotel. The MRT (metro) station is less than a 5 minutes stroll from the Westin. With public transport so close by you can easily explore Bangkok. But there are more advantages of staying in Asok
There is plenty to do in Asok! For example, the huge shopping center Terminal 21, which is located next to the hotel. There are plenty of good restaurants and nice (sky/rooftop) bars. Also the night market Art Box and Benjakitti Park are located in this area. You will also find the red light district Soi Cowboy and Korea Town. Korea Town is often called Sukhumvit Plaza, a small area with several Korean restaurants, bars and shops. Asok is a neighborhood where you never get bored. And despite the busy and noisy streets, you won’t get bothered at all once you’re in the Westin.
Welcome in The Westin Grande Sukhumvit
Checking in at the lobby is quick and easy. If you are a member of the Marriott Bonvoy program you can immediately earn points here. The Westin Grande Sukhumvit is part of the Marriott group, one of the world’s best hotel and resort chains. After a friendly welcome we were taken to the Premium Deluxe Twin Room, where we also had the Westin Club Privileges.
Premium Deluxe Twin Room with memorabel views over Bangkok!
Our room was located on the twentieth floor of the beautiful hotel. Thanks to the large window in the room, we had an unforgettable view over Bangkok! Our comfortable room with of no less than 42 m2 with comfortable high pile carpet was great. Despite the fact that the green bathroom tiles and some of the furniture were not quite our taste we would undoubtedly spend the night here again.

The room had everything you can expect from a good five star hotel like The Westin. A TV, minibar, kettle and a real coffee machine. So no bags of Nescafé that you have to mix with water yourself but a real Nespresso machine. Extra cups were delivered without any problems (we love good coffee). It’s so nice waking up while enjoying the view over the skyline. Good morning Bangkok!

The clean and spacious bathroom had a bath and separate shower, all more than okay! Next to a large desk to work on, there were connections for (business) equipment taken into account. Such as a LAN and even an HDMI connection. Under the TV was a DVD player and next to the bed was a modern controller to use the lights, air conditioning and room service. Such a gadget we want at home, including room service please!

Heavenly Beds
But the most important thing, apart from a hygienic room, is in our opinion a good bed. And it was really heavenly! The beds aren’t called Heavenly Beds for nothing, and rightly so! The boxsprings are so popular that they have their own webshop. Honestly such a good bed as in the Westin Grande Sukhumvit we haven’t had slept on before in Thailand. We still dream about it!
Lovely breakfast, lunch and dinner!
What we as well still dream about is all that delicious food we ate in the Westin. Like in the Japanese restaurant Kisso! This award-winning restaurant is part of The Westin Grande Sukhumvit in Asok. Perfect if you want to make the most of your stay in a five-star hotel! We also enjoyed all the good food during the buffet breakfast in the Seasonal Tastes restaurant. This open restaurant is on the same floor (7th) as the lobby where you can not only have breakfast but also lunch and dinner.
Seasonal Tastes
The open kitchen of Seasonal Tastes is open daily from 06:00 – 23:00. Seventeen hours a day you can enjoy an amazing buffet here. The name says it all at Seasonal Tastes they respond to the seasons. This means that they buy and prepare products that are the very best in a certain season.
On the day of arrival we had a delicious lunch buffet and the days after a good and extensive breakfast buffet! For the early birds, you can have breakfast here from 06:00. For the late risers, the breakfast buffet of Seasonal Tastes is open until 11:00.
During the buffets there is so much choice that you can’t eat or even taste everything. Certainly not if you’re only a guest for a few days. What we had all tasted great, a few personal favorites were; Fresh (fruit) juices, the sweets (including delicious pastries), a variety of foreign cheeses and fresh bread (rolls). Besides the open kitchen there is also an egg station, pancake and crepes station and even a pasta station where many dishes are prepared right in front of your nose. Whether you like savoury or sweet, western or Asian, there is so much choice here that choosing can be difficult!
Seasonal Tastes by The Westin Grande Sukhumvit also hosts regular themed buffets. For example, on Sundays there are the Family-Filled Sunday Lunch buffets where children get half the discount and can join in with Westin Kids Club activities. During Mother’s Day in Thailand on August 12th there is a Mother’s Day Buffet Treats. All goodies to make mom happy!
Kisso Japanese Restaurant
Before we went to Thailand we had heard and read a lot about Kisso in the Westin. We are big fans of Japanese cuisine and this highly appreciated restaurant has been on our wish list for some time now. Kisso Japanese Restaurant works just like Seasonal Tastes with seasonal products. So they always have fresh special ingredients that are flown in directly from Japan.

When the staff on our arrival heard that we were from Thailand Magazine, the chef was called in to introduce him to us. With the good reviews, it would be perfectly justified if this man would be a bit carried away, but nothing could be further from the truth. The chef was an extremely friendly young man with a big smile on his face. We even got the feeling that he was a bit shy. We weren’t only fans of his food, but also of his personality!
We asked him what he would recommend to us and he told us that he would work something out for us personally. So that was a surprise from the chef! And what a surprise the chef gave us, all we were served at Kisso was uhmm to kiss so delicious!

First came sushi and sashimi, which tasted excellent as expected, everything was very fresh and delicate. Meanwhile it seemed that the chef was unstoppable. Immediately after one excellent dish came the next one on the table. We got a tempura of shrimp and vegetables, a miso soup, a Bento box with different preparations of salmon, delicious tender beef and a red-hot pot with a fish dish in it. The fish, “Ishidai” as they call it in Japan, is a Strip Beakfish and we had never eaten it before. Everything was of exceptional quality and tasted great, a true feast!

If you are, like us, a lover of Japanese cuisine, then you really should eat at Kisso in Bangkok! By the way, they have several promotions. For example, you can have lunch for less than 2,000 baht per person on Sunday and choose from an unlimited menu. This between 12:00 and 14:30 including soft drinks, tea and coffee. I hear you think, isn’t that a bit much in Thailand. No, certainly not, and remember that in the west you would lose at least double for this quality.

Zest Bar & Terrace
The Zest Bar is the place to enjoy a day strolling through Bangkok. Or in our case, having a great day in the Westin Grande Sukhumvit. The bar is open until midnight and you can order a nightcap or a nice cocktail to end the day. Or as we did a good coffee including a view of the Terminal 21 shopping mall from the terrace outside. The nice thing about this bar is that in the evenings there is almost always live music played by a band or pianist. A nice addition to the cocktails prepared by a true mixologist.
TIP!
Make use of the Happy Hour at the Zest Bar & Terrace. This is every day between 16.00 and 19.00. On Monday to Friday you will get a head massage from the house between 17.30 and 19.30 with your order.
YUMMY
Every day between 12:00 and 18:00 you can enjoy a High Tea at Zest with appetizing and attractive savory and sweet snacks.
Westin Club Privileges
When we checked in we heard we could use the Westin Club Privileges. This meant access to the Westin Club Lounge, super-fast internet in the hotel and much more fun! The nice thing about the Westin Club Lounge is that you can sit there for a drink or snack from the house. In the end we have only been there twice and that while we had planned a whole day in the hotel. Doing nothing all day and just enjoying the fine hotel to the fullest, but as always in this kind of cases time flew by. Maybe we had been relaxing by the pool too long?
The pool at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit
On the eighth floor of The Westin you will find the 227 m2 outdoor pool (deepest point is 1.4 meters). This fine pool which is filled with salt instead of fresh water offers a great view over the skyline of Bangkok. Exactly what we wished for when searching for the perfect hotel in Asok!
Saltwater pool
The salty water in the Westin’s swimming pool doesn’t feel like seawater and there are many advantages to it. For example, it’s healthier for your skin and uses no chlorine and fewer chemicals. As a result, the hotel’s saltwater pool is a lot less harmful to the environment and humans, great job Westin!
Are you lying comfortably?
Around the large swimming pool you’ll find plenty of seats and sunbeds including two large lounge sofas that you can cover when that scorching Thai sun gets too hot for you. Three guesses where we were lying? A good service is that different kinds of sunscreen and the like can be used. In addition, once in a while a Westin employee came by with an ice-cold towel. Very chill! We had such a good time relaxing at the swimming pool in lively Bangkok!
The Pool Bar
At the pool is a small pool bar, here you can order something to eat or drink between 10:00 and 20:00. They have different salads, meals and snacks. Prefer a cocktail by the pool? There is a choice of about twenty cocktails or mocktails. Cheers!
DID YOU KNOW?
Every month there’s a pool party at the Westin. Dance to the DJ’s beats while you enjoy a festive atmosphere in and around the pool!
WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio
In order to keep those extra gained holiday pounds under control (because of all that tempting good food in The Westin), the hotel has built a super large fitness studio. The WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio is 405 m2 and is full of fitness equipment for strength or cardio training. The Westin Grande Sukhumvit also offers daily yoga and fitness classes. Prefer on the move outdoors? Then you will receive advice and a city map with which you can go jogging in the vicinity of the hotel. Didn’t bring sportswear? At The Westin you can rent sportswear. Marriott considers the health and well-being of her guests important and therefore it’s not surprising that they come up with these kinds of initiatives.
Vareena Spa
A healthy body is a healthy mind and the Vareena Spa is an ideal place for that. Relax in one of the seven treatment rooms where you can choose from various massages, scrubs and other treatments. You can even have a massage class at the Vareena Spa at the Westin. In fact, this spa is just a large spa of almost 400 m2 in the heart of Bangkok. Including steam baths, sauna, whirlpool and so on.
Different types of rooms and suites
The Westin Grande Sukhumvit has a total of 362 rooms and 31 suites, all with a Heavenly Bed. Besides the bed, the rooms have a minibar, large TV, Nespresso machine and many other extras that make a stay in Bangkok very comfortable. The cheapest rooms are the Deluxe rooms that we have seen online for under 100 euro per night. Of course you can book a suite, so you have your own living room next to your bedroom and you get access to the Club Lounge of the Westin for free. Of the suites we really liked the Breezy Suite (see the pictures below). Then there is the Presidential Suite for the lucky ones. A suite on the top floor of the Westin with its own dining-, living- and bedroom including not one but two bathrooms.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Westin Grande Sukhumvit is designed to look like a big ship. That’s why there’s a sail on one side of the facade of The Westin and waves on the other side.
Our compliments!
Finally, we would like to compliment the very friendly staff. Of course you expect professional and competent staff from a five star hotel, but at the Westin it’s more than that. What we noticed is that everyone treats the guests very personally. It’s not so formal and rigid, something we really appreciate.
A nice detail, and typically Westin, were the small name badges with a passion on them. There was one girl with music on it and another one with travel on it. What passion would you have on your nameplate? Ours would be definitely Thailand!
What else is there to experience in Asok?
Probably you don’t want to leave the Westin Hotel at all but there are some nice things to do in the area as well. Opposite the hotel is a large shopping mall and nearby you will find a park and a nice night market. Through the infobox we show you what else to do during your stay at the Westin Grande Sukhumvit. Enjoy your stay!
