THE SPEAKEASY ROOFTOP BAR - CHEERS, TO THE AMERICAN TWENTIES IN BANGKOK!
The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar takes you back to the 1920s, when the production and sale of alcohol in America was restricted. In that period, hidden, often underground bars arose where barrels of (strong) liquor were rolled in through the back door. Nowadays, the occasional speakeasy bar still opens behind a phone booth or bookcase, but that’s just for fun. The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar in Bangkok is part of the Hotel Muse Bangkok Langsuan. This cool boutique hotel is decorated all 1920s style with The Speakeasy serving as a rooftop bar. We especially liked the unique decor and the cocktails there were very tasty. If you are a lover of The Great Gatsby style then this location in Bangkok is definitely a must visit.

Where in is The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar located?
The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar, which is part of Hotel Muse, is located on a side street of Ploen Chit Road. To be precise, the side street (soi) is called Lang Suan. The hotel is easy to reach by public transportation from Bangkok. Both the BTS (sky train) station and the MRT (subway) station are called Chit Lom and are less than a ten-minute walk from the hotel. You can plan a visit to The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar together with the Erawan Shrine or the luxury shopping centers CentralWorld and Central Embassy, among others.

Hotel Muse Bangkok Langsuan MGallery Collection
MGallery Collection accommodations are quirky boutique hotels with an extra focus on design. The luxurious Hotel Muse Bangkok Langsuan is a perfect example of what the MGalley brand stands for. The chic hotel, like The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar, has a 1920s art deco look. You can see that style well down to the smallest details in the hotel’s rooms and public areas.
Hotel Muse Bangkok Langsuan MGallery has a total of 174 rooms divided into six different room types. This luxurious accommodation has a small but nice swimming pool, a gym and a number of good bars and restaurants. An overnight stay at Hotel Muse takes you back in time when you were drinking cocktails with mafioso Al Capone on the roof of the hotel. A time when the ladies you meet in the hotel almost all wear Coco Chanel and when you debate until deep in the night with Albert Einstein whether E=MC2 is correct.
Theme
Obviously, Hotel Muse and The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar has an art deco look. You really imagine yourself in an old American movie with modern Bangkok as the backdrop. A nice twist and special to drink and eat in such a setting. The materials, use of color, and even the clothing of the bar team contribute to this 1920s theme.
The rooftop bar
The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar is neither the biggest nor the coolest rooftop bar we visited in Bangkok. Nevertheless, we found this location very atmospheric thanks in part to the cordial staff who are always up for a chat and joke. In addition, the look and feel of the interior is really quite original! If classic, art deco, 1920s is your style, then this is a rooftop bar in Bangkok to definitely check out.
Not every rooftop bar or sky bar in Bangkok has two floors, The Speakeasy does. Unfortunately, the 25th floor was closed when we were there, but fortunately, we were allowed to take a look and take some pictures. Each floor has an indoor and outdoor section, and outside is partially covered. This comes in handy because of the heavy rains that plague Bangkok from time to time.
A DJ regularly plays (electronic) music, including when we were there in July 2022. A very friendly guy, but in our opinion his choice of music did not match the atmosphere and style of the rooftop bar itself. The music was nice, but not the type of music that matches the art deco style around us. At least that’s our opinion… Something that may have contributed to our negative experience was the music volume. That evening we were in good company and at times it was very difficult to understand each other. One thing we should mention, we visited The Speakeasy on a Saturday and maybe it was because of that. Still, our opinion is that The Speakeasy is more of a place to enjoy a drink rather than hear rock-hard beats, even on a Saturday. In fact, the venue has a certain ambiance where you enjoy hanging out with your friends, chatting, and laughing. This while enjoying some cocktails or gin tonics while sharing some snacks.
The 24th floor of the The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar
To get to The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar you don’t have to go through a disguised entrance to hidden rooms or underground areas. It’s very simple, from the first floor you take the old-fashioned-looking elevator to the 24th floor and after you get off the elevator you’re already there. While entering the location, you are immediately sucked into that 1920s vibe of the past, at least that’s how we experienced it. Opposite the elevator is the stylishly decorated cigar room, for a moment we regretted not smoking…
DID YOU KNOW?
The cigar room is called the Blind Pig. This refers to the term used in America in the early 19th century. Blind Pig is synonymous with a speakeasy bar and in other words it is a bar that should not be found.
Once you walk through from the elevator, you emerge outside onto a long partially covered terrace on which an amber lighted art deco bar has been placed. Here and there are high tables with stools or benches for larger groups. The mixologists behind the bar interact a lot with their guests who have placed an order or just come to have a look. Ze zijn trots op hun werk en hebben er plezier in, dat zie je en proef je. They are proud of their work and enjoy it, you can see and taste that. The same was true of the cocktails we ordered ourselves, each one tasted delicious, our compliments!
The long terrace on the 24th floor runs all the way through, offering a unique view of Bangkok. The head overlooks the west and the back part looks far towards the east of Bangkok. In the pictures below we show what we mean by this.
Inside, unfortunately the secret sliding door to get to the 25th floor was already open, we didn’t even realize it and only learned afterwards that the entrance is hidden behind a giant painting behind which a staircase to the top emerges. A little bit of speakeasy at Bangkok’s The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar! On to the 25th floor.
The 25th floor of the The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar
The highest point of Hotel Muse is the 25th floor which is also the domain of The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar. Not too high, but high enough to enjoy the beautiful view of part of Bangkok. Not only is the view beautiful, but the Speakeasy Rooftop Bar Hideout, as part of the 25th floor is called, is very nice. The 1920s art deco style comes off very well here, a feast for the eyes!
Further up, another large terrace has been placed that can be covered with an ingenious system. Unfortunately, the poison-green artificial grass floor destroys the whole art deco style. The floor does not fit into the typical atmosphere we had encountered everywhere at The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar and in Hotel Muse.
Dan maar snel terug naar beneden want onze vrienden Ploy en Dima waren gearriveerd en we hadden trek gekregen. We headed quickly back downstairs because our friends Ploy and Dima had arrived and we had gotten hungry. This lovely couple would be doing our after-wedding shoot at a very special location a month later. At 6 a.m. on August 12, we stood together on the roof of the roof of the Mahanakhon tower.
DID YOU KNOW?
We ourselves are from the Netherlands and therefore we really enjoyed the eastern view from The Speakeasy upon the roof of the Dutch Embassy. Hotel Muse is close to a neighborhood where many embassies are located.

Good eats at The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar
The menu at The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar consists of about twenty dishes from small to large. Some of these items are perfect for social sharing. Some call it fusion, we call it a mix of Asian and Western dishes, some of which are finger foods and some of which are complete meals. We ordered and shared the following four:
Grilled Wagyu Sliders
Three small burgers with lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheddar and grounded Wagyu. We found the Wagyu beef a little too dry, but the meat was well flavored. The fries served with it were large, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Exactly as good fries should be!
Chicken Satay
A serving of six sticks of well-marinated chicken including a bowl of peanut sauce and a bowl of what we thought was Indonesian Atjar Ketimoen. This is a mix of pickled vegetables such as cucumber with fresh chili in a mixture of vinegar and other ingredients.
Garlic Prawns
A large portion of meaty sweet garlic prawns including pieces of crispy garlic bread – Very tasty!
Moo Yang
The winner in terms of taste as far as we are concerned! The grilled pork was tender and was even more delicious with the Jaew Sauce. This is a Thai chili dipping sauce that is sweet, sour, and a little spicy. The perfect combination with the well grilled pork!
Our order cost just over 1,800 THB (50 euros) including additional service fee and tax. A great price for the portioning, service, and location. Want to know what else to order? Then check out The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar’s menu.
Cocktails, Gin and more
On the drinks menu, there are plenty of other drinks to choose from besides some very original cocktails. From spirits to sodas. The impressive Gin selection is what stands out the most. This comes in great numbers, with more than fifty different types of Gin from all over the world! Add to that the thirteen Botanics and you can vary Gin Tonics for many days. Be careful not to walk out of Hotel Muse too swaggering, of course, you can just stay the night at this fine boutique hotel.
While we were there, we chose several signature cocktails. We actually always do this when we visit a new sky bar. Of course, we want to give you the best possible information. You visit The Speakeasy Rooftop Bar not only for the great look and feel, but also for the great cocktails they prepare here. Every single one of them were very tasty!
