Discover the other side of Bangkok by bike, by boat and by foot.
The Other Side of Bangkok offers some very nice bike tours through Bangkok, one of which we did ourselves. We were so enthusiastic, that we started working with this organization right after that. In our opinion, The Other Side of Bangkok offers the very best bicycle tours in Bangkok. Way better than some other bicycle tour organizations. In this article you can read why and as a bonus we give readers of Thailand Magazine a 10% discount! The Other Side of Bangkok’s five different tours are less crowded than others’ massive tours. Even though a (small) portion of the destinations visited overlap, we saw more than with any Bangkok bike tour we have booked in the past.
The team at The Other Side of Bangkok have a great sense of responsibility, speak good English, are friendly and obviously know the ins and outs of the city. Thanks to the 10% discount, the tours are also cheaper than almost any other organized bike tour of Bangkok, Thailand.
Peach and her organization The Other Side of Bangkok
A few years ago, we met Peach, the owner of The Other Side of Bangkok. She told us that she had been doing bike, food and walking tours of Bangkok for years and at one point took the bold step of starting The Other Side of Bangkok. She has since organized hundreds of tours and introduced thousands of visitors to Bangkok to the city.
The Other Side of Bangkok’s goal is to provide a unique, enjoyable and environmentally friendly experience through Bangkok. If you book a tour with The Other Side of Bangkok you will get a rare insight into the life and culture of local communities in and around Bangkok.

The Other Side of Bangkok’s office is located near the Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn. From there, Peach and her team take you on an exploration of Bangkok. Not just by bicycle, but often partly by longtail boat through the klongs (waterways) of Bangkok.
Let Peach and her team show you the City of Angels. See immense skyscrapers and dilapidated wooden houses along the waterfront. Get in touch with Thai culture thanks to the many temples, smell the aromas coming from the countless street food stalls, check out the unusual items for sale in the market, and meet the city’s smiling locals.

Did you know that?
The Other Side of Bangkok contributes to the goal of Community-Based Tourism (CBT). This represents the cultural exchange and preservation of local traditions to enable our clients to explore local habitats and wildlife and learn and respect traditional cultures, rituals and ancient wisdom to support local communities.

The Thonburi area in Bangkok
Except for the Jungle Oasis tour, there are four tours done in the Thonburi area. The Thonburi district lies on the western bank of the Chao Phraya River. On that side are still countless local houses along Bangkok’s many klongs (canals). A klong is a waterway and then and now still serves as a road. Thonburi represents the more traditional side of Bangkok.

A Taste of Bangkok
The Taste of Bangkok, along with Jungle Oasis, is our favorite! After all, we love Thai food and there is no shortage of it here by a long shot. Not only will you learn more about Bangkok’s cultural communities, but also taste the typical Thai flavors in all its facets.
From the starting point, the headquarters of The Other Side of Bangkok, near the Wat Arun, you’ll cycle through the Kudi Jeen community and past the Santa Cruz Church. Then you’ll visit a temple, a park and a fresh market before ending up in Chinatown. Finally, you stop at Bangkok’s most famous flower market.
Although this tour is chock full of visits and activities, the short duration of this tour makes it very convenient to combine with other activities in Bangkok.
The Taste of Bangkok tour of about 15 km takes about three hours and is available daily in three start times; at 09:00, at 13:00 and at 17:00.

Bangkok Jungle Oasis
We did this itinerary partly on our own and the Bangkok Jungle Oasis tour is highly recommended!!! During the half day tour you will in fact explore the green island of Bang Kachao by bicycle. An oasis of jungle in the middle of the metropolis of Bangkok! We have been here several times and find this a very special location. This starting point is not at the Wat Arun, but at a pier located on the Chao Phraya River opposite Bang Kachao.
Much of this bicycle tour of Bangkok, you cycle on an elevated path that goes right through the jungle, past plantations and farms. Along the way you will visit a park, a botanical garden, ancient temples and many other beautiful gems. While cycling, you will be amazed by the unprecedented scenery, we are sure!
Also known as “Bangkok’s green lung,” Bang Kachao is a huge green oasis south of the city. Bang Kachao is actually an island with a vast green area of orchards, gardens, plantations and (tropical) forests. In 2006, Bang Kachao was named one of the best urban oases in the world by Time Magazine! For us, this is a must visit if you have enough time in Bangkok, Bangkok’s green lung welcomes you!
The Bangkok Jungle Oasis tour of about 25 km takes up to five hours. The tour is available daily at 8:30 am and 1:30 pm. The meeting point this time is not at the headquarters of The Other Side, but at Wat Klong Toey Nok, in southern Bangkok. This starting point is easily accessible via public transport or cab, more explanation will be given to you while booking the tour….

Bangkok Floating Markets
On the Bangkok Floating Markets tour you will visit three different floating markets in Bangkok. The first floating market you will visit is the Wat Sapharn Floating Market which is located along the Bang Noi Canal. The second floating market is the famous Klong Lad Mayom Floating Market and the third and last market you will visit is the Taling Chan Floating Market. During this full-day program you will bike and sail through Bangkok and you will see and taste many delicious Thai specialties. By the way, this tour is a good alternative to the famous Amphawa Floating Market.
Note!
The name “floating” market can be misleading. Nowadays almost all floating markets are located on the riverbanks with a number of boats selling mainly food. Still, a visit to a floating market remains a fun experience.
The Bangkok Floating Markets tour of about 30 km takes about 6 hours and is only available on Saturdays and Sundays. You leave at 09:00 and you will be back at the headquarters of The Other Side of Bangkok near the Wat Arun temple around 15:00.

Private tour in our outside Bangkok
Want something different, are you with a large group or do you want all the attention for yourself? Peach and her team can also put together a private tour that can include your/your wishes (if possible, of course). Peach can help with a sightseeing tour, a tour to the floating markets or a tour all about Thai cuisine (including a cooking workshop). You can also book your own private tour through or around Bangkok with Peach. It is even possible to go to Ayutthaya and the like together.

Our own experience with The Other Side of Bangkok tour
After being picked up by a van and dropped off at the office of The Other Side of Bangkok, we were introduced to our two guides. We were allowed to choose a mountain bike including a helmet. The bike was expertly checked and adjusted for each person, safety above all else. During our tour, we visited several temples, including the Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen with its striking golden Buddha statue located by the water. Also, be sure to enter the pagoda, you will be amazed!
After our temple visit, we went for a drink with the locals who live and work right by the railroad, conviviality! Same for our lunch that we were served in a small tent along a klong. During our private tour we sailed, biked, ate, walked through a Bangkok that was largely unknown to us. What fun we had and we learned so much about Thai culture and everyday life in Bangkok.
Thanks Peach and her amazing team!
