SALT SOCIETY - ONE OF KOH SAMUI'S BEST BEACH BARS
In August 2022, the management of Centara Reserve Samui invited us for a dinner including cocktails at a unique beach location. Salt Society is an incredible beach club where not only can you dance and drink, but where the chef also prepares some tasty dishes.
The stunning Salt Society Beach Bar & Kitchen offers an uninterrupted view out to Chaweng’s beach and sea. For us it was the perfect location to talk together again about our perfect wedding at Purana Residence a week before. Maybe Salt Society will be where you get engaged or you celebrate your honeymoon. In any case, Salt Society is a very fun and beautiful location to spend a fantastic day and/or evening with your loved one or friends!
Cheers
After we were seated at the table with white table linen and shiny blue made-up cutlery, we were given a basket with four kinds of bread and dip. “A good start” we said happily, as we clinked our glasses with sparkling water and a slice of lemon against each other. “Here’s to another great evening on Koh Samui, cheers baby.”
Starters
Shortly thereafter followed our two starters. We shared the burrata with balsamic, pistachio, and kalamata olives. The juicy white ball of burrata cheese was placed on a large portion of peperonata. Of course, in such a stylish venue as Salt Society, a dish without Wagyu Beef is not to be missed. In Salt Society’s case, it was served with a generous mound of Parmesan cheese, salsa verde, roasted onions and arugula. The “finishing touch” of smoked sea salt completes this dish. Sometimes it’s the little things that do the trick.
Main courses
Maybe it was the salty sea breeze or the background sound of constantly lapping waves, but at the beach a seafood dish really comes into its own! I ordered the “whole baked red snapper” and Ilonka the “free range chicken”. The chicken was unfortunately a tad on the dry side, but the red snapper on the other hand was perfect. An added bonus of the fish dish was that it was served boneless. We will try to prepare the crust of the chimichurri at home as well, blissful!
Desserts
For dessert we made the mistake of having our eyes bigger than our mouths. We had actually already eaten more than enough, but two desserts on the menu spoke to us. Who doesn’t fall for the name “chocolate x5,” I asked, “is this dessert really with 5 types of chocolate,” you guessed it “yes please!” The second dessert ended up being the decisive chocolate overdose we were afraid for, a portion of profiteroles thickly coated with, yep you guessed it chocolate, a lot! Both dishes were not only insanely delicious, but also incredibly powerful.
Most special sangria ever
After that last mighty course, we really needed to relax and unwind on giant lounge couches that looked toward the sea. After overcoming our sugar rush, we were offered a cocktail as a grande finale. We asked the mixologist for advice, and before we had fully voiced the question, we heard the Spanish word “sangria.” Really? “Si!”. We discovered the Salt Society sangria not just any ordinary sangria, but a Sangria show, starring in the lead role dried ice. If you’re lucky, you even get to play a small supporting role in the show. Even in Spain we have never had such a special sangria. If you go or are on Koh Samui, we believe you should come and taste it for yourself.
Fishy fishy fishy
During our pleasant visit, we saw a group of people across from us who were having a really good time. What was in those funny looking cocktail glasses in front of them? “We’d like to try one of those too” I pointed as inconspicuously as possible to the table diagonally across from us. For several minutes she stood there, our little fish, of whom we really had no idea what cocktail she had in her tummy. Sweet and fresh, was it something with pineapple?

In conclusion
Next time we are on Koh Samui, we will book a couple of nights at the Centara Reserve Samui. The service and quality there is top notch. What we have seen of the resort makes us want to come back here again. After all, Sairee Beach is one of the very nicest beaches on Koh Samui. A few days in such an opulent luxury resort like this, who wouldn’t want that!
