PHI PHI VIEWPOINT
The Phi Phi Viewpoint is the place for a breathtaking view over the beautiful Phi Phi island. From this viewpoint all those beautiful pictures of the two beautiful bays are taken. You don’t need a drone for that, but you do need a little stamina! To reach the 3 different viewpoints of Koh Phi Phi you will first have to climb a lot of steep stairs. Then follows a (slightly) sloping path. But the reward more than makes up for the effort!

Phi Phi Viewpoint 1
To reach Phi Phi Viewpoint 1 you have to conquer the 343 steep stairs, so it’s not easy to get away with it. When you have conquered the stairs you will pass the cash register and you will be allowed to pay 30 baht. With this you have paid the entrance fee for viewpoint 1 and 2. You aren’t allowed to bring alcohol to the viewpoint, there is a fine of 1.000 baht. Of course you can buy beer (110 baht can) and wine (180 baht per glass) at the box office. You can also buy burgers (160 baht) and pad thai (150 baht ). If you have to take care of the little ones, this is not the place to eat.

I LOVE PHI PHI
You can’t miss the fact that you have arrived at Viewpoint 1, because it is written in cow letters together with I LOVE PHI PHI. You can already see these letters from a part of Ton Sai Village. Viewpoint 1 has all images of fruit, flowers, chickens and other animals, it’s a neatly maintained piece of green. The view from Phi Phi Viewpoint 1 is already very nice! You can already see part of the two bays (Ton Sai on the left and Loh Dalum on the right) and the cliffs behind the island.

The 2004 tsunami on Koh Phi Phi
At Viewpoint 1 is a memorial place for the tsunami that struck Thailand and with it the Phi Phi islands in 2004. Many people were looking for higher land to escape the water tide. Here you can see pictures of before and after the tsunami, one day after and 10 years later. Very impressive!

Phi Phi Viewpoint 2
For Viewpoint 2 you have to go a bit further, the road here is slowly going up, you can feel this in your calves. On Viewpoint 2 is a cafe / restaurant with a terrace on the roof. The whole area of Viewpoint 2 is littered with large rocks that are at the same time perfect seats to enjoy the view. There is also a large jetty built from where you also have fantastic views. So plenty of space!

The sunset from Phi Phi Viewpoint!
During the sunset, Viewpoint 2 is especially crowded, of course not for nothing. If the weather is not so bad, this is a very nice place on Koh Phi Phi to see the sunset. If you want a good spot, don’t come just before sunset, everyone does. Take for something to drink for example on the roof of the restaurant and enjoy. The viewpoint is also worthwhile before sunset! Rather less crowded? Then go there in the early morning when everyone is still lying on one ear or visit the highest viewpoint of the island, Viewpoint 3!

Phi Phi Viewpoint 1, 2 …3!
It seems that not many people know that there are 3 viewpoints on the island. On Viewpoint 2 the signs say Top View. With this information they give you the idea that there is no higher viewpoint. But that isn’t true! Because of this it was quite crowded around sunset at number 1 and 2, but at Viewpoint number 3 there were only a handful of people.
The road to it is less good, the route goes over an irregular path. But it’s not really far, from Viewpoint number 2 you’re not longer than 15 minutes on your way to Viewpoint number 3. Despite walking through a piece of nature it is not the most beautiful route. There was quite a mess and we also saw an abandoned restaurant.
There was also a new looking hotel with swimming pool, where you as a guest can take a dive for 100 baht, don’t forget your swimwear! If you sleep in this hotel you will be picked up from the pier with a pick up truck, so if you really don’t feel like walking…

Also on Viewpoint 3 is a restaurant with a nice jetty run by a sweet family, before you can enter it you have to take off your shoes and pay 20 baht entrance fee at the restaurant. Your ticket for Viewpoint 1 and 2 is not valid here.

How to get to the Phi Phi Viewpoint
There are two different routes to Viewpoint 1 and 2. The first route is a path through the jungle of about 2.5 kilometers long. You will then immediately arrive at Viewpoint 2. But you still pay 30 baht. We have been told that some locals here drive cars or scooters. For the average tourist that seems like a bad plan. Besides, we haven’t seen a scooter rental company on Koh Phi Phi yet.
The second route is the one almost everyone takes. It starts in the village of Phi Phi (Ton Sai), near the Harmony House, this route is about 700 meters and has steep stairs. You can take a rest at several places along the way, take at least enough water with you. There are toilets at all three viewpoints.
For Viewpoint 3 you take the road behind the restaurant with the roof terrace, the View Point Cafe. First walk down a little bit and then follow the path from the restaurant. Viewpoint 3 is regularly signposted from there.
TIP!
If you are going to watch the sunset, bring a flashlight or something like that and mosquito repellent anyway, for the mosquitoes it is always feeding time in the jungle!
