REVIEW NOVOTEL BANGKOK SUKHUMVIT 4 - A RELATIVELY NEW HOTEL IN THE NANA AREA OF BANGKOK
The last nights of our visit to Thailand in 2021/2022 we slept at Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4. A relatively new hotel less than 10 minutes from a BTS station in Bangkok. Everything about this accommodation was good. If you are looking for a quality, well priced and well located hotel in Bangkok then this is one to remember. For us, the literal highlight was the RedSquare Rooftop Bar with the adjoining rooftop pool! You’ll find more information on that further down.

The location
Fair is fair, for many people Nana is known as the neighborhood of Nana Plaza. This is a red light district with countless bars and freelancers, but Nana has so much more to offer. We can safely say that Nana is a neighborhood you can walk through with small children just fine. Some of the advantages of staying in Nana are that there are many good restaurants and shopping malls within one stop by Sky Train. We ourselves almost always sleep in neighborhoods where there is a BTS station, so you can easily travel through Bangkok. At the bottom of this review we will give you some fun hotspots in the (immediate) surroundings.
Accor
We chose to stay at the Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 because of the good reputation this hotel chain has built up worldwide. In Bangkok there are already at least ten Novotels to be found and in Thailand way more! On Phuket we have already described the Novotel right on Kamala Beach. The Novotel brand is part of Accor, also responsible for Mercure Bangkok Siam. We regularly sleep in this hotel when we want to discover the busy Siam area of Bangkok for a few days. In early 2022, it was time to try another Accor accommodation in Bangkok.
The accommodation Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4
Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 opened its doors at the end of 2018, a fairly new hotel in Bangkok and you notice it as soon as you step inside. From the entrance/ lobby on the first floor to RedSquare on the roof, really everything feels brand new. In this Novotel hotel you will find everything you need for a comfortable stay in Bangkok. You can enjoy delicious food and drinks, work out in the gym and for some extra exercise or just to relax you have to be on the rooftop of this accommodation in Nana. On the roof, guests can make use of a swimming pool with great views over Bangkok and/or enjoy a nice drink and snack at the rooftop bar of this hotel. To be continued further on…
Ibis Styles Sukhumvit Bangkok
In 2018, not only Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 opened its doors, but also Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit opened at the same time. Just like Mercure Bangkok Siam and Ibis Bangkok Siam are also located in one building. Thus, budget accommodation and more luxurious accommodation can be booked in 1 location.
TIP!
Both accommodations have a free shuttle service that will take you to Nana BTS Station.
Two different type of rooms at Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4
At Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4, there is a choice of booking two different types of rooms. The rooms have a modern look and are still in brand new condition. Guests can choose from a room with two single beds or a spacious double bed. The Deluxe room is 26 m2 and the Grand Deluxe room, the most luxurious option of 33 m2, can also be booked with a bath.
All rooms of this hotel have a desk, extra sofa in front of the window (check that view!), 49″ smart TV, minibar, safe and iron including ironing board for fans. In the bathroom, you can use the various toiletries that are provided free of charge. Then there is the view, not every hotel in Bangkok has a unique view like this, see the picture below we shot from our own Grande Deluxe room….

The Grande Deluxe, our room on the 16th floor
In early 2022 we slept in the Grande Deluxe Room of Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4. A nice place where you can unwind after a day of strolling through Bangkok. Our 33 m2 was perfect. Despite having slept in a very luxurious hotel before our arrival at this one, we didn’t get the feeling of a downgrade. The bed was wonderfully soft, there was a bench by the window and we could even do some work for Thailand Magazine at a small desk.
The Grande Deluxe room also had a Nespresso machine. Despite the accommodation’s good breakfast buffet, we always find it pleasant to wake up. Especially with a view like from the rooms at Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4! The air conditioning was well adjusted, meaning we didn’t have a single second of an annoying noise or cold wind directly on the bed, always a plus. The bathroom was built in such a way that through a sliding panel it was partially integrated into the bedroom. This made the room look even more spacious.
The bathroom at the Grande Deluxe room
The bathroom looked like it had just been installed, so clean and new! There was a lockable rain shower including a separate shower head with good water pressure. Various amenities were offered at your disposal such as a set of toothbrushes, shower gel and shampoo. Because of the open character that can be made of this bathroom, brushing teeth together as a couple is also no problem. Just a very nice and clean bathroom for the space offered.
Good eats (and drinks) at Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4
During our stay we had breakfast and lunch at the Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4. At the rooftop bar we had many drinks. Even on the last day of departure, we enjoyed some fruit shakes and cocktails by the pool during sunset extremely well during the afternoon.
RedSquare Rooftop Bar
The highlight of our stay at Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 was the RedSquare Rooftop Bar! As the name suggests, this bar is located on the roof of the hotel with a swimming pool next to it. What a great view this rooftop bar offers over Bangkok. At RedSquare Rooftop Bar, guests can enjoy delicious snacks and numerous (alcoholic) drinks. In terms of snacks, you can choose from about twenty items on the menu.
Because there are so many sky bars and rooftop bars in Bangkok, this rooftop bar in the Nana area of Bangkok has come up with a nice twist to present itself in a different way. They specialized in serving and mixing cocktails with different types of vodka from all over the world. Hence the name RedSquare Rooftop Bar. Vodka is an ideal mixed drink because it tastes quite neutral, therefore the other ingredients come into their own and we tasted that too.
Food Exchange Restaurant
Breakfast, lunch and dinner, it’s all possible at the Food Exchange Restaurant. Located on the ground floor of Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4, this restaurant is spacious and conveniently laid out. In the middle is a bar where guests can enjoy a drink during the evening hours. On a personal note we recommend the rooftop bar RedSquare for a nice drink. Compliments to the attentive staff and the amazing chef who is in the kitchen. This chef creates super tasty dishes and we felt his fiery passion for cooking in every bite!
Breakfast buffet at Food Exchange Restaurant
The breakfast buffet at the Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 offers more than enough variety. Some of the products available during our stay were coffee, tea, fruit juices, pancakes, white and brown bread, croissants, banana bread (very tasty!), jams, salads, different types of yogurt and fresh fruit. Of course there was also an egg station for the famous sunny side up eggs. There was no lack of sausages and bacon either. For those who love hot dishes, there were also some warming trays filled with a number of Thai dishes and of course a big pot of congee.
DID YOU KNOW?
Most Thai people have breakfast with congee, a kind of hot rice soup, often with chicken, ginger and various spices. This itself is then topped off with chopped peanuts and spring onion.
Two different lunch sets at Food Exchange Restaurant
After checking in at the Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4, we had gotten incredibly hungry and decided to both order a lunch set. Since we like to share, we ordered 1 Thai set and 1 Western set. To complete this perfect yummy picture, it came with a watermelon shake and an iced coffee. What a feast! Visitors to Thailand know that the food is almost always of high quality and for a low price. For just over a tenner per person, you can eat an extensive 4 course meal in a quality hotel in Bangkok. One of the many reasons why we love Thailand so very much!
In motion
Good food also means enough exercise and they know that at Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4. That’s why there is a spacious gym on the seventh floor of the hotel. Here you can work on your condition or your muscle mass. In balance, as the name of this gym is called. After a workout, get some air in the small garden city garden on the seventh floor that this gym overlooks.
Amazing rooftop pool at Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4!
We mentioned the rooftop pool earlier in this review, but just for the pool alone we recommend this hotel in Bangkok to you dear readers! Our only regret is that there are not enough sunbeds available around the pool. The hotel team had better exchange some tables during the day for some extra sunbeds, that’s what not only we but most probably other guests will find pleasant. (We were here during the Covid-19 period, of course it may have been because of that, let’s hope that was the case).
The rooftop pool and the accompanying terrace offers guests phenomenal views of part of Bangkok. Unfortunately, the pool is open until 06:00 PM and therefore we recommend enjoying the morning light early. From 07:00 AM onwards you are more than welcome at this lovely saltwater pool in the heart of Bangkok. By the way, you won’t notice anything of the salt water, only that it is better for your skin and nature because of less harmful substances that are used in freshwater pools.
In conclusion
Are you looking for a good hotel in Bangkok including a pool (on the roof) and also a rooftop bar? A few nights at the Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 is definitely going to make you happy!
