MANGO BAY

Mango Bay, also called Ao Muong Beach, is an fenomenal beautiful bay in Koh Tao with very good snorkeling opportunities. On both sides of the bay is coral and of course there are colourful fish swimming around. For snorkel lovers Mango Bay is therefore highly recommended! The beautiful beach is on the small side of the bay and is surrounded by lush green hills and boulders.

Snorkeling from the terrace

By scooter or taxi you will not arrive at the beach of Mango Bay but at the Mango Bay Boutique Resort. The small beach is difficult to reach by land. The Mango Bay Boutique Resort has a terrace on the rocks, to enter the resort you have to pay 100 baht. This is followed by quite a few stairs with finally a terrace on the rocks. From here you can take the stairs into the water to snorkel. The beach of Mango Bay is visible from here and can be reached for most people with a normal condition and swimming skills. (Don’t forget your dry bag). But you can also just stay on the terrace. There are sunbeds and you can buy something to eat and drink.

With strong winds from the west, the sea is less calm at Mango Bay. Also the visibility underwater can be less good, so snorkeling can be a problem. If necessary, ask the local boat driver for advice. If the sea is too wild at Mango Bay it is often just fine snorkeling on the other side of Koh Tao. Another option is Tanote or Aow Leuk Bay, another great snorkeling and diving spot.

Sleeping at Mango Bay

There are only 2 resorts on the beautiful Mango Bay. Both accommodations have free shuttles twice a day by boat to the harbor and Nang Yuan Island. Transfer by boat on departure and arrival is also free of charge.

Mango Bay Boutique Resort
The Mango Bay Boutique Resort lies against the rocks of the beautiful Mango Bay. The hotel is not on the beach but has a platform with sunbeds above the sea. From the platform you can swim and snorkel. There are different types of cottages, all have a balcony with beautiful sea views. The staff and owner are very helpful; by the way. A good place to stay at Mango Bay!

Ao Muong Beach Resort
The Ao Muong Beach Resort is the only accommodation on the small beach of Mango bay. In addition, there are several elevated terraces with sun beds. The well-kept rooms have balconies with sea views. There is only hot water (electricity) between 6 PM and 7 AM. Except for the hotel and its restaurant, there is nothing on the beach. A wonderful place for those looking for peace and quiet!

How to get to Mango Bay

There are a number of different ways to get to Mango Bay:

By (longtail) boat to Mango Bay

The beach is easiest to reach by taxi boat, most snorkel tours also make a stop at this bay. Sometimes the sea is too wild for the taxi boats and snorkel tours. A taxi boat from Sairee Beach or the Mae Haad Pier will cost about 1,000 baht per person for a return trip.

By scooter to Mango Bay

To the terrace of Mango Bay many scooter rental companies advise not to do this. It’s not that nobody goes and that things always goes wrong, but we often hear stories of slips and falls. Some parts have a narrow but good road, these parts are alternated with irregular sand / mud tracks (depending on the weather). See also the article about Mango Viewpoint.

By taxi to Mango Bay

The taxi costs about 2,000 baht for a return trip. With us there was also a stop at one of Koh Tao’s most beautiful viewpoints, Mango Viewpoint. Not all taxi drivers are in the mood for this bumpy ride, so you might have to make an effort.

PLEASE NOTE
There is a “road” that does lead to the beach (free) of Mango Bay. This road is in a very bad condition. With our site we want to be as complete as possible and that is the only reason we share the route below with you. We do not recommend this route. Watch this vid for details. Think before you start!
