MALIBU BEACH
Not far from Chalok Bay, situated on a headland you will find the quiet Malibu Beach. By the way, did you know that the beach owes its name to the bungalows of the same name that are rented out here? Fine white sand, clear blue water, plenty of trees providing shade and a restaurant. Maybe it’s the name but we recommend the Pina Colada on Malibu Beach!
Malibu Beach
The sand of Malibu Beach feels like flour, that’s how fine it is. The beach is surrounded by palm trees and gives you a view on the mountains of Koh Phangan. Besides palm trees there are also special nice shaped trees on this beach. On this beach there are plenty of places where you can relax with your partner or family without being disturbed too much by others. This is partly because it is often not very crowded here.
The seawater is shallow and with few waves. Ideal for families with children who can splash around in the clear warm water. During low tide the water is so shallow that it isn’t possible to swim here, time for that Pina Colada then?
PLEASE NOTE!
During the rainy season from June to October it is difficult to swim in the sea here. This because of the strong wind in combination with the shallow reef.
Malibu Beach Bungalows
A short distance from the beach are the Malibu Beach Bungalows. Here you can book a simple bungalow including breakfast for around € 30,-. On and around the beach there are a number of restaurants and bars where you can order typical Thai dishes. Behind Malibu Beach Bungalows is a 7 Eleven on the main road, always good to know, long live the 711 toasties!
How to get to Malibu Beach?
Malibu Beach is located on the west side of Chaloklum Bay. So make sure you drive to the village of Chaloklum first. Then you drive on to the Malibu Beach Bungalows on the main road. Stop at the 7 Eleven and walk onto the terrain where you cross a concrete bridge and arrive at the beach.
From Haad Rin (beach of the Full Moon Parties) it’s about a 45 minutes drive by cab and a little longer by scooter. From the pier where you arrive at Koh Phangan it is about 20 minutes by taxi and assume that it is half an hour by scooter.
DO YOU KNOW?
Via Malibu Beach you can also take a taxi boat to Bottle Beach for 150 baht per person. This way you can combine these two beaches in one day.
