LONG BEACH
Long Beach is a lovely white powdery beach on Phi Phi Don island . Officially this beach is called Haad Yao but every inhabitant of the island knows immediately what you mean when you talk about Long Beach. The beach of Long Beach is lined with restaurants and resorts. There are also a lot of trees and palm trees so there are nice shady spots and the beach doesn’t feel crowded.

Relaxed beach holiday
At Long Beach, people mainly come for a relaxing beach holiday. Loud music as it is played on the popular Loh Dalum Beach is rare on this beautiful beach. However, there are regular fire dance shows in the evenings on Long Beach and you can eat with your feet in the sand. The beach is a half hour walk on a jungle path from the center (Ton Sai Village).
The sea is crystal clear (depending on the season) and ends quickly, you can’t stand anymore. This makes it a very good beach for swimming. But for younger children it’s perhaps less suitable. From the beach you have views of rocks and the beautiful island of Koh Phi Phi Leh, known from the movie The Beach.

Sleeping and eating on Long Beach
There are quite a few resorts on this beach where you mainly pay for the location. Some 3 or 4 star hotels may not be as luxurious as you would expect. Phi Phi The Beach Resort (from € 74,-) and Viking Nature Resort (from € 25,- to € 150,-) have good reviews. The cheaper rooms at the Viking Nature Resort are usually quickly fully booked. Also good to know is that the Viking Nature Resort is not located directly on Long Beach but has a number of small beautiful beaches in front of the door. Most resorts offer free transportation by longtail boat to and from the resort, you will be met at the pier and brought back after your stay. Walking is not recommended with luggage anyway.
The restaurants on Long Beach all belong to the resorts on this beach, of course you can sleep in one resort and dine at the other resorts.
DO YOU KNOW?
Many people think Long Beach is the most beautiful beach of Koh Phi Phi. From Ton Sai (Village) Long Beach can be reached on foot if you’re on your feet.

Shark Point at Long Beach
When you walk all the way down Long Beach towards the south you can see Shark Point from the beach. There are rocks sticking out of the water (water shoes are handy here). The rocks themselves are not very spectacular, but the reef sharks seen here are of course! Of course you still have to be lucky to see a shark, but it still happens regularly!
Near Shark Point is a stretch of sea where you can snorkel safely because there are no longtail boats. The sharks that are seen here vary from baby sharks to specimens of one to two meters. You are most likely to see them in the early morning. Of course, besides sharks, you can also just see colourful fish. Shark Point is also regularly visited during snorkel trips around the island.

Hiking trail to Loo Moo Dee Beach
Approximately at Shark Point, just past Phi Phi Long Beach Resort & Villa, a path leads inland. This path leads to Loo Moo Dee Beach. There are currently no accommodations here but you can rent sun loungers for 100 baht a day. You can also get something to drink when the shop is open.
A little further from the beach is the brand new PP Mountain Beach Resort & Water Park (from € 62,-), a resort complete with water slides in the shape of an octopus. A longtail boat taxi to Loo Moo Dee Beach costs 200 baht per person. But Loo Moo Dee Beach is also often visited during snorkel tours around the island. That is in proportion often cheaper to do.

How to get to Long Beach on Koh Phi Phi?
The easiest way to get to Long Beach is by longtail boat. During the day you pay 100 baht per person one way. In the evening you pay 150 baht per person and after 00.00 hours 200 baht. With the longtail boat you can get there in 5 minutes. You can rent longtail boats anywhere on the beach, the drivers are hanging around on the beach and often there are also signs with the prices.
Another more sporty and adventurous way is just walking to Long Beach. The route sometimes goes up and down quite steeply, but can be done when you’re on your feet and take a break once in a while. It’s mainly the last part that takes some climbing and clambering, but there are ropes that support you and then you’re really almost there! Along the way you will also pass a few small idyllic beaches, which might make you decide not to walk at all!
Images: ThailandMagazine.com
Start your hike at the Phi Phi Bayview Resort, from here the route is regularly signposted. Along the way you will pass the Phi Phi Bayview Premier Resort and the very special Viking Nature Resort. The Viking Nature Resort runs almost all the way to Long Beach.
Also you pass a nice little bar and some restaurants, no reason to rush! It took us about twenty minutes at a quiet pace from the U Rip Resort (where we stayed), from the center of the Koh Phi Phi (Ton Sai Village) you are about half an hour away.
PLEASE NOTE!
Rent a longtail boat when it’s dark, there are no lights and the path is irregular.
