LAEM TONG BEACH
Laem Tong Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of Koh Phi Phi. The beach of Laem Tong is almost one kilometer long and has fine powdery white sand. The crystal clear water is as blue as blue can be! Here are the pictures you will find in the travel brochures when they talk about tropical beach destinations!
Laem Tong Beach is located in the far north on the west coast of Koh Phi Phi Don. Because Laem Tong Beach is secluded it is quiet here in the evenings. On this part of the island you won’t get any disturbance from the parties and bars that are located in the central part of the island. (Like on Loh Dalum and Ton Sai). Most restaurants close at 10 PM and after that it soon becomes quiet.

Laem Tong Beach, beach for peace seekers
Laem Tong is a lovely beach for peace seekers, couples and families. There are only a handful of hotels and these are almost all luxury to very luxury hotels and resorts. Your accommodation is never far from the beach because this part of Koh Phi Phi is very narrow. Because there are not many hotels but many (palm) trees, the beach doesn’t feel full. The vegetation along the coastline offers some nice shady spots. Laem Tong Beach is really a paradise!

Good eats on Laem Tong Beach
Most of the restaurants on this beach belong to the hotels or resorts and all provide good quality food. But there are also some good stand-alone restaurants. In many cases your dinner will be useful by candlelight on the beach, it couldn’t be more romantic! Laem Tong is therefore often visited by honeymooners. A nice authentic Thai restaurant that you can easily overlook is the Chili And Pepper Restaurant. All the food is freshly made and the restaurant has a nice view, good food and really that Thai atmosphere!
What to do at Laem Tong Beach?
Hop on Hop off boats, explore the island!
If you like to do something other than lazing and swimming you can use the Hop on Hop off boats. These are boats that sail a fixed route at fixed times. You can go to Mosquito and Bamboo Island. But you also can organize your own private tour and negotiate the price with a longtail boat owner on the beach.
If you feel like shopping or going to another beach you can also take the hop on hop off boat to Ton Sai (Village). From Laem Tong there are three boats a day. These go before they go to Tonsai Pier first to Long Beach (30 minutes sailing) and then 15 minutes later to Ton Sai Pier. Departure times: 08 AM, 11 AM an 2 PM
From the Ton Sai Pier the boats also depart three times a day in the opposite direction. The first stop is again at Long Beach and then Laem Tong Beach. In total about 45 min travel time. Departure times: 10 AM, 12:30 PM and | 5:30 PM
Price: Adults pay 200 baht per perons one way and children (3 -12 years) 150 baht.

Swimming & Snorkeling at Laem Tong Beach
You can go quite a distance into the sea before you can’t stand anymore, yet the sea of Long Taem Beach is also great for swimming. Don’t forget to take your snorkel with you because if you swim a bit further you’ll get to coral and rocks and you can have fun snorkeling. Organized snorkel tours often take you to the bay of Leam Tong Beach. On the beach there are also diving schools where you can follow lessons or go on diving trips.

Bamboo Island & Mosquito Island
From the beach of Laem Tong you can see the two islands Bamboo Island (Koh Mai Phai) and Mosquito Island (Koh Jung). These are two beautiful small tropical and uninhabited islands where you can snorkel and relax on the dazzling beach. You can get there with a longtail boat or with the Hop on Hop off boats. Often these islands are also part of the snorkel tours that are offered on Koh Phi Phi.
Phi Phi Sunset Pier
Next to the P.P. Erawan Palms Resort is a path to the other side of the headland. You’ll be there in about five minutes. Here is no beach but a pier where (if the sea permits) several boats from Phuket arrive. Nice extra is that you can watch the sunset here. Hence the name Phi Phi Sunset Pier.
When we walked there the sea was wild and the waves were high. And that while on the other side, at Laem Tong Beach, the sea was almost mirror smooth. A strange sensation!
