Koh Tao is a small tropical island of no more than 21 square kilometers. The nearest mainland is 70 kilometers away. The name Koh Tao means turtle island, because there used to be a lot of sea turtles in the clear seas around the island…
The sea turtles are still there only now you need a little luck and wisdom to be allowed to encounter them. The beautiful beaches range from small and deserted to long and lively. Most people who visit Koh Tao combine several beaches because it is hard to choose from all the beauty the island has to offer! For example, it’s fun to combine the cozy Sairee Beach with the small bay of Aow Leuk (our favorite!). The hilly interior is lushly green and has some beautiful viewpoints you can climb. Like the John Suwan Viewpoint and Mango Viewpoint. The warm sea is clear blue and full of tropical fish and coral. For example, Tanote Bay, Mango Bay, Hin Wong Bay and Shark Bay are some of the best beaches if you want to snorkel and/or dive. As such, the island is known as one of the best snorkeling and diving destinations in Thailand and Asia! It is also one of the cheapest places in Asia to get your diving license!
