KOH PHI PHI
The Phi Phi islands belong to an archipelago in the province of Krabi. Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh are the largest and best known islands, but only on Phi Phi Don you will find several accommodations. The other smaller surrounding islands are Koh Bida Noi, Koh Bida Nok, Koh Yung and Bamboo island. These are often visited during snorkeling and diving trips and are, like Koh Phi Phi Leh, uninhabited…
Phi Phi Don is an island that has the whole package, beautiful white beaches, a crystal clear sea surrounded by high rocks and palm trees. There are more than enough hostels, hotels and resorts, numerous restaurants, various type of shops, massage parlours and a vibrant nightlife. Besides the busy beaches with budget accommodation, there are also quiet beaches with luxury resorts. There you can get your diving license and make your various snorkeling and diving trips. Not active enough? You can also climb the viewpoint from where you can overlook a large part of the island!
Phi Phi Don is an island of just over 12 km2 located in the Andaman Sea. It’s two hours by ferry from Phuket and three hours from Krabi Town, Ao Nang or Railay. That is why Koh Phi Phi is often visited as a day trip from Phuket, Ao Nang, Koh Lanta, Railay and Krabi Town.
Phi Phi Don is often mentioned in one breath with Maya Bay, the beautiful bay on the nearby inhabited Phi Phi Leh, known from the movie The Beach starring Leonardo Dicaprio. Before this film became a big hit in 2000 it was mostly a tranquil location. With on Phi Phi Don wooden huts on the beach and a small shopping street. That is different nowadays! Meanwhile, the island of Phi Phi Leh is even closed to visitors, which means you aren’t allowed on the famous shore of Maya Bay. This in the hope that the coral, which has suffered considerably from tourism, will recover. Luckily the first baby (blacktip) sharks have been seen in the bay again and you are still allowed to visit the other beautiful spots of this island!
