KOH NANG YUAN

If you’ve ever seen a picture of a small paradise island of Thailand, chances are it was Koh Nang Yuan! Koh Nang Yuan consists of 3 small islands and it’s about 10 minutes with boat from Koh Tao. These three islands are connected by a sandbank, no ordinary sand but paradise white sand! In addition, the sea is more blue than crystal clear blue! All in all this makes for an idyllic picture that you certainly should not miss when you are on Koh Tao!

The Japanese Garden, excellent snorkeling!

Koh Nang Yuan is also known for its excellent snorkeling opportunities. The famous snorkel spot Japanese Garden is a favorite among divers and snorkel boots. The Japanese Garden is known for its beautiful corals and special fish such as the scorpion fish and the manta ray. The water turtle also comes here once in a while. The three islands of Koh Nang Yuan are very popular and are visited by almost every snorkel tour.

Koh Nang Yuan has a very nice viewpoint that you can climb, from the top you have a beautiful view over the 3 islands. You can reach the top by climbing a lot of steps. At the end it is still a bit of climbing over the rocks but your effort will certainly be rewarded! At the top you have a beautiful view over the paradisiacal islands of Koh Nang Yuan!

SAVE MONEY

There is only one restaurant on the island, this restaurant is part of the Nangyuan Island Dive Resort. The prices are on the high side. For example, a portion of fried rice costs 160 baht. If you have a small budget you better make sure your belly is filled before visiting the island.

Rules on the island of Koh Nang Yuan

It is not allowed to bring plastic bottles to the island, if you have them with you you have to hand them in (yes they check your bag!). Swimming fins are also not allowed, this is to prevent you from damaging the coral while snorkeling. It is also forbidden to lie on a beach towel because a lot of sand is lost in this way (tons per year according to the signs). There are beach chairs with a parasol for rent for 150 baht per day. Around noon all beach chairs and umbrellas are often already rented. There is not much shade on the island so don’t forget your sunburn!

How to get to Koh Nang Yuan

A visit to Koh Nang Yuan is included in almost all snorkel tours but ask for it just to be on the safe side! Sometimes certain places are not visited if the sea is not calm enough. The price of a snorkel tour is 500 baht for half a day and 600 baht for a whole day (yes indeed that difference is very small!). You can also visit Koh Nang Yuan by renting a private taxi boat. From Sairee Beach this costs around 300 baht return, don’t forget to negotiate! If you timed it a bit smart you might be able to avoid the worst crowds. From 10 AM you can enter the islands, if you go around that time you are often ahead of the worst crowds of the normal snorkel tours. The island “closes” at 5. PM.
