IN THE PICTURE #51
In ‘In the Picture’ photographers from all over the world share their 10 most beautiful pictures of Thailand. See Thailand through the photographer’s lens, read background stories about the pictures and learn more about the beautiful Thailand!
We know Perfilyev Ilya from the photo site Flickr. We love his authentic way of photographing and that’s why we asked him if he would like to participate in our In the Picture section. His answer? See his photos below.
Hello, could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Good day Thailand Magazine readers!
My name is Perfilyev Ilya. I am 40 years old, Russian by nationality. I was born in Tver, a small city nearby Moscow. For the last 10 years, I have lived in different places… it’s complicated.
I start to take photos when I was 10. We take photos with my father using black & white film and later develop & print pictures ourselves in a dark room.
I am a graphic designer for the last 20 years and I like swimming, snorkeling, ride a motorbike & eat Asian food (especially Thai).
It was hard as hell to choose 12 pictures out of all of them. I decided to stick with just the film shots, even though I’ve shot a lot on digital. But you can never fit everything into one story.
Have a wonderful day!
Perfilyev Ilya
What is your favorite destination in Thailand?
Koh Lanta, I just came and stay for a month, and later return many times. It’s cozy and comfortable. Bangkok, on the other hand, is my favorite city, I am amazed by its vibe and never fail to find something new.
Which place / destination do you recommend our readers to visit and why?
I like to see the very south provinces of Thailand, nearby Malaysia.

Which place / destination do you recommend our readers to visit and why?
Koh Tao is a nice place for snorkeling.
Where do you like to eat?
All street food is nice, just choose your favorite meal)
Tip us a nice coffee shop or bar where our readers can drop by.
I don’t know.
What is your favorite Thai dish?
Pork & holy basil stir-fry with egg on top (pad kra pao kai dao) love at first taste, absolutely delicious.

Leica M6 + Summilux 50/1.4
Well, these two guys in Bangkok told me that they were Muay Thai fighters before and demonstrate some moves. After the show, we drank some Lao Khao (Thai spirit) together.
What is your favorite accommodation in Thailand?
The Blue Andaman Lanta Resort. An absolutely nice resort located at Klong Khong Beach on Koh Lanta.
Do you have a (travel) tip that might come in handy in Thailand?
While traveling always try something new — food, activity, meet new people.
Is there a Thai phrase or word our readers need to learn?
Aroi Mak Mak, because all food is really tasty)))
What type / brand of camera do you use?
My gear, for now, are: Leica M6, Ricoh GR iii, Olympus E-M5 mark ii, Sony RX1, GoPro Hero5 and an iPhoneSE2.

Leica M6 + Summilux 50/1.4
One more shot about the rooster fighting match on Koh Lanta.
ATTENTION!
Thailand Magazine in no way promotes cockfighting or other activities involving animal suffering. This is the reality on screen as it happens in Thailand.
