IN THE PICTURE #25

In ‘In the Picture’ photographers from all over the world share their 10 most beautiful pictures of Thailand. See Thailand through the photographer’s lens, read background stories about the pictures and learn more about the beautiful Thailand!

This time with some beautiful pictures taken by Luca Koch. A year ago he bought his first camera and look what beautiful pictures he is taking! We are happy to show Luca’s work in this section! Benvenuto Luca!

Hello, please introduce yourself.

Ciao ragazzi!

I’m Luca Koch, an Italian guy born in Albissola Marina near Savona. Savona is located in the northwest of Italy, not far from Monaco. I have been living and, working for three years in Kata Beach on Phuket, Thailand.

I have always been interested in photography but I never had the chance to try my hand at it since I generally love to admire the wonderful places where I live and to enjoy the moment. A year ago (beginning of 2020) I made the big step and decided to buy a reflex camera, mainly since I started thinking of the many people that are no longer able to travel due to the pandemic. I decided to share my work through social media, hoping that people can feel some positive emotions admiring wonderful places temporarily out of their reach and start dreaming and hoping again.

I never took pictures in my life with a camera, except with my phone.
In the end it is becoming a real passion and now not a single day goes without capturing and publishing some images on facebook or instagram. The photos you will find here are all taken in Kata Beach – Phuket, being the place where I live so magical and beautiful.

I really hope you will like them and that they convey emotions above all…

All the best from Phuket,

Luca

Fishing boat on Kata Beach

This is perhaps one of my favorite photos. I wanted to capture a typical Thai boat but from another point of view. In the end it was the sun that found and caress it with a gentle touch…

#2

Small fishing boat in the sea at Kata Beach on Phuket, Thailand

Fishermen come back from the sea after a day of work and the sunset around them creates a beautiful effect on the water.

What is your favorite destination in Thailand?

Definitely Kata Beach on Phuket, the city where I live and where I have a great time.

Which place / destination in Thailand is still on your wish list to visit?

I would like to visit cities like Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Pai in Northern Thailand but for now it remains just a dream. I am going to Koh Phi Phi at the end of next month. An island I’ve always wanted to visit, it seems like a fantastic place.

#3

Sunset on Kata Beach, Phuket

I found these rocks at the end of a Kata Beach by pure chance. The sky looked like a painting and luckily I had my camera with me.

#4

Sunset over Kata Beach on Phuket, Thailand

A magic of colors during sunset that left me speechless. The sky here often takes magnificent and unique colors that I have rarely seen in my life.

Which place / destination do you recommend our readers to visit and why?

A city that I always liked very much is Rawai on Phuket. There are beautiful and clean beaches and parks where you can breathe in the open air.

Where do you like to eat?

I love Thai cuisine and often eat Thai dishes. I am approaching vegetarian and vegan cuisine and I can definitely recommend the restaurant at Santosa Detox & Welness Center in Kata Beach where you can find excellent vegan dishes and an excellent Spa and Fitness center.

#5

Kata Beach on Phuket

The beauty of the beach in the morning when no one is around, like living on a desert island. Crystal clear water and white sand…

#6

Sunbeams over Kata Beach on Phuket

When I look at this photo I always ask myself “Is this Heaven?”

Tip us  a nice coffee shop or bar where our readers can drop by.

Definitely the Street Cafe by Yami in Kata Beach. A small bar run by two very kind Thai ladies who offer not only excellent service but also excellent coffee and delicious croissants.

What is your favorite Thai dish?

Even though I’m becoming vegetarian, my favorite dish is definitely the goose cooked in red sauce. Here in Thailand it is really good!

#7

Red pink sky over Kata Beach on Phuket, Thailand

I waited almost 10 minutes for this girl to move to immortalize the sunset… But then I thought that maybe the photo was so much more exciting…

What is your favorite accommodation in Thailand?

At the Santosa Detox & Wellness Center you can find comfortable apartments with a beautiful sea view.

Do you have a (travel) tip that might come in handy in Thailand?

If you come here, respect local customs and especially nature.

Is there a Thai phrase or word our readers need to learn?

In the three years that I have lived here, I have only learnt the phrase “Sabai dee krub”, which means “I am fine” 🙂 (Women end with ka instead of krub, by the way). To be honest, I haven’t had the chance to learn Thai in the three years I have been living in Thailand. Now I know a few words and the one I use a lot is “aroy mak mak” (very good food) because I think the food in Thailand is very good!

#8

Small road in Kata Beach on Phuket, Thailand

A rare cloudy day proves how beautiful Thailand is at any given moment.

What type / brand of camera do you use?

A Nikon D7200 with standard lens.

Where can our readers find your work / photos?

On my Instagram page and I’m working on building my personal website.

Last question, who should we also ask our ‘In the Picture’ feature?

I don’t know very many but these two photographers take really beautiful pictures. Joey Santini and Floris Photography.

Orange sky over Kata Beach on Phuket, Thailand

Sitting on the terrace after work waiting for the sunset. In the end a magic of orange colors came out. I ran to get the camera…

#10

Statue at Kata Beach on Phuket, Thailand

This photo is a little different from the others but I wanted to include it because this statue expresses serenity. Located near my workplace, I just need to look at it every now and then to feel more peaceful.
