Koh or Ko means island in Thai

Because Koh Phi Phi is an island you are dependent on transport by water. This can be split into two forms. Traveling by speedboat or ferry. Which boat you take depends on your budget, the place of departure and the time you want to leave. In some cases you only can take a speedboat and in other places you depart with the ferry.

To make our page even easier, we have created a table of contents especially for you, so you can easily search by subject in this article.

PLEASE NOTE!
We advise you to order your tickets online in advance during the high season (November to April). (Preferably via our site of course – this costs you nothing extra). In high season it’s most likely that some transportation tickets are sold if you want to catch a boat to Koh Phi Phi.

Travel from Bangkok or Chiang Mai to Phi Phi

To travel to Koh Phi Phi from Chiang Mai or Bangkok you will first get a little closer to this beautiful island. The fastest and easiest way is by plane, but if this is too expensive you can choose taking a night train to Surat Thani. From the train station you will continue by bus or minivan to Krabi. There you take the boat to Phi Phi. Too much hussle and decided to fly? Then take a flight to Krabi airport. Phuket Airport is also perfectly possible, but you will be on your way a little longer.

Travel from Krabi Airport to Phi Phi

Once you landed at Krabi Airport make sure you go to the Klong Jirad (or Jilad) Pier. From this pier you take the ferry or speedboat to Koh Phi Phi. If you fly early from Bangkok or Chiang Mai you will easily be in your hotel in Phi Phi the same day.

With a (shared) minivan or taxi from Krabi Airport to the Klong Jirad Pier of Krabi.

After landing at Krabi Airport you take a taxi or (shared) minivan to the Klong Jirad Pier from where the boats to Koh Phi Phi leave. This pier is closest to Krabi Airport. From Krabi Airport the drive to Klong Jirad Pier takes half an hour if it is not too busy on the road or there are not too many stops in between.

Travel from Krabi Town to Phi Phi

Also from Krabi Town you first have to travel to the Klong Jirad Pier. Depending on your location in Krabi Town, a ride to this pier will take no longer than 15 minutes and you pay no more than € 7,-. For your imaging, from Krabi Town you could even walk to the pier of Klong Jirad. From the famous Crab Monument it’s a 45 minutes walk.

By ferry from Krabi’s Klong Jirad Pier to the Ton Sai Pier on Phi Phi.

From the Klong Jirad Pier it is an hour and a half to two sailing to the pier of Koh Phi Phi. Expect a maximum of € 15,- per person for a ferry ticket. Travel from Ao Nang to Phi Phi

From Ao Nang there is also a ferry to Koh Phi Phi. The ferry departs from the Noppharat Thara Pier just outside the centre of Ao Nang. It is best to take a taxi or see if there is a songthaew near where you are staying. A songthaew is a kind of taxi bus where you pay € 1.50 to get to the pier. A taxi will not care that much about the costs, assume double the amount per person. With a taxi you are about fifteen minutes from the center of Ao Nang on the Noppharat Thara Pier. The ferry departs daily at 09:30 AM and takes two hours. For a one way ticket you pay € 12,- per person.

Travel from Railay to Phi Phi

From Railay, one of our favourite destinations in Thailand, you can also travel to Koh Phi Phi. This goes smoothly with the speedboat from Railay East.

From Railay East to Phi Phi by speedboat

This is a fast ride on the water where you sail from Railay to Phi Phi in half an hour! Take the speedboat from the floating pier of Railay East. This will cost you € 25,- per person. Pricey but you will be back ashore from Koh Phi Phi in no time. The speedboats leave at 10 AM, 12 AM and 2 PM.

Travel from Phuket to Phi Phi

Phuket is the largest island of Thailand and Koh Phi Phi is not far from here. It is therefore not surprising that this island attracts many holidaymakers who regularly plan a transit or day trip to Phi Phi. Below we explain how you can easily travel from Phuket to Phi Phi. Both from the airport or from any other place on Phuket.

YUMMY
At Phuket International Airport you will find The Coffee Club! Our favorite coffee chain in Thailand! A nice place if you have to wait for your flight.

Travel from Phuket International Airport (HKT) to Phi Phi

From Bangkok, Chiang Mai or any other medium sized city with airport it is possible to fly to Phuket. There are even possibilities to fly from Amsterdam and other major citiies, with a stopover, to Phuket International Airport! From the airport you will travel on to the Rassada Pier in the south of Phuket.

By taxi from Phuket Airport to Phuket’s Rassada Pier.

Travel time, depending on the hustle and bustle of the road, will be between half an hour and an hour. This taxi ride could get me a good negotiation technique for € 20,-.

By Shuttle Bus from Phuket Airport to Phuket Town

A cheaper option is to take the Airport Shuttle Bus to Phuket Town first. The first bus leaves at 07:30 AM and then goes every hour until 9:30 PM. A ride with the local bus is much cheaper than a taxi (€ 3.50 per person), but also takes almost two hours! Then you have to take a taxi from Phuket Town to the Rassada Pier which will cost you a maximum of € 5,-.

TIP!
If you are traveling with two people or more, taking a taxi is the smartest option. You’ll lose a little more (saves a few euros per person) but within an hour at Phuket’s Rassada Pier.

From another location on Phuket continue to Koh Phi Phi

Even if you already are on vacation on Phuket, we recommend that you first travel to the Rassada Pier on the island. From here most boats leave and the trip to Koh Phi Phi is also the quickest.

From the Rassada Pier from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi travel to Phuket.

Koh Lipe is an insanely beautiful island all the way in the south of Thailand near the Malaysian border. Even though it is a long trip, you can travel by boat from Koh Lipe to Koh Phi Phi. Assume 4 to 5 hours of sailing and the price varies between € 50,- and € 60,- per person.
