Embassy Room - Catalan Cuisine

A journey through the Spanish Catalan Cuisine in downtown Bangkok

At Park Hyatt Bangkok, we were surprised by the flavors of Catalan cuisine. In fact, on our first evening we dined at  Embassy Room – Catalan Cuisine, one of the restaurants of the super-luxury hotel. It was immediately a culinary feast, courtesy of the “Tradició i Evolució” menu. What an experience, what a restaurant, and what a talent Spanish Chef Ferran Tadeo has! And you know, even if you are not staying at Park Hyatt Bangkok, a dinner at Embassy Room – Catalan Cuisine is highly recommended. As the Spanish say: siempre muy bien!

Where in Bangkok is Embassy Room - Catalan Cuisine located?

Embassy Room – Catalan Cuisine is a culinary hotspot on the ninth floor of the prestigious Park Hyatt Bangkok. This hotel is a paragon of exclusivity with its striking architecture, luxurious facilities and sublime service. From the restaurant you will enjoy a magisterial view of the infinity pool and Bangkok’s fascinating skyline. Park Hyatt Bangkok is easily accessible thanks to the sky train that stops at the adjacent BTS stop Phloen Chit.

Right in the beating heart of the city, in the upscale Embassy district, Park Hyatt Bangkok glistens atop Central Embassy shopping center. The home of the Embassy Room is more than a building; it is an architectural masterpiece created by the famous London architectural firm AL_A. The Central Embassy complex can be admired virtually from every corner of the city and is praised for its unique appearance. And if that is not enough, on top of this iconic building you will also find the Penthouse Rooftop Bar – one of Bangkok’s many rooftop bars.

The interior of Embassy Room - Catalan Cuisine

The restaurant exudes an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. For the best experience, a window-side seat is recommended; that’s where you’ll enjoy the impressive views through floor-to-ceiling windows. This adds to the serene and stylish ambiance of the establishment. On the other side is the large open kitchen, where Chef Ferran Tadeo’s dedicated team works with passion to put the very best on the table for their guests.

Both indoor and outdoor tables are available, and fortunately we were still able to secure a spot outside – obviously our favorite choice when in Thailand. The interior design goes hand in hand with the unique architectural style of the property, with great attention to high-quality materials and an impressive art collection. You can find more details in our extensive Park Hyatt Bangkok review. A modest private room is also available, perfect for a business meeting or an intimate dinner in a small setting.

Chef Ferran Tadeo and the Catalan cuisine

Ferran Tadeo, culinary virtuoso and master of Catalan cuisine, has been the driving force behind Park Hyatt Bangkok’s Embassy Room – Catalan Cuisine since 2022. With a career that has taken him from the Spanish coast to the U.S. and finally to bustling Bangkok, Tadeo has blazed an impressive trail.

At age 17, he started in Catalan cuisine and was taken under the wing of none other than Ferran Adrià of El Bulli – a true legend who put Spain on the Michelin map. Until its closure in 2011, he perfected his skills there. His next adventure was as Research and Development Chef at Minibar of José Andrés, a Michelin star icon, in Washington DC. Later, Tadeo breezed over to Hong Kong as Executive Chef at La Rambla by Catalunya.

“Ferran Tadeo was selected to be part of the kitchen team in 2010-2011 so he lived with us a very special moment in the history of elBullirestaurante as it was the last stage before the transformation into elBullifoundation. As you can imagine, it was a unique period full of emotions and incredible moments. His professionalism and attitude were always impeccable and an unmistakable sign that he had a wonderful future ahead of him, as we see today at Embassy Room – Catalan Cuisine”

An inspiring quote from Chef Ferran reads, “Guests should come here to eat because they will discover the flavors, textures and emotions of Catalan cuisine, for many of the foods they have never experienced before.”

Tradició i Evolució

In August 2023, we feasted on Embassy Room – Catalan Cuisine’s most extensive menu called “Tradició i Evolució.” This six-course menu, which means “Tradition and Evolution,” offered a true taste experience and this culinary journey lasted just under three hours.

The menu was divided into six parts: a series of appetizers to tantalize the taste buds, followed by a selection of appetizers that further whetted the appetite. Depending on the option chosen, two to four main courses were then served. This was followed by a course that highlighted the treasures of the sea and another dish that honored the richness of the land. As a grande finale, we enjoyed several delectable desserts.

After this extensive Catalan culinary journey, it was a good thing we had our comfortable room just a few floors up. It was an exhausting and unforgettable gastronomic marathon!

Aperitu = aperitifs

Our Catalan culinary journey of discovery began with four refined aperitifs. As the starting point of the journey, a tomato cocktail was prepared right at our table, using the refined Don Julio Blanco tequila and tomato as a base. Then we were surprised with a series of small, but oh-so-tasty bites: bonbons of green olives, filled with a sublime olive oil that amazed even the Italian among us – and no, this oil was not from Italy. We also enjoyed an exquisite dish of Ibérico ham and Comté cheese.

Per anar fent boca = to arouse hunger

During the second course, the team at Embassy Room – Catalan Cuisine served us “Llobarro vieira & gazpatxo,” a dish that resembled a generous cocktail. This consisted of a clear gazpacho containing refined sea bass. The bao was accompanied by crab and tasted exquisite. It was a surprise for us to taste churros, which are usually sweet, with cod mousse, but this combination was delicious!

Platillos = dishes

Without exception, the main courses were spectacular! It was as if the kitchen staff knew that as a child I always enjoyed the fresh peas from my nonno’s (grandfather’s) garden in the Italian countryside. The squid, prepared with its own ink and served with fresh peas, was heavenly! But the showpiece was “Ous estrellats amb caviar,” a dish of caviar with egg yolk that you have to mix yourself and then spoon – unparalleled deliciousness!

All four dishes were of optimal quality; similarly, the dish with tenderloin and the one with lobster were extraordinary. So it was no surprise that these four culinary works of art formed the heart of the menu.

Mar = sea

After thanking the kitchen staff profusely, it was time for the next course: “Arròs de gambes. A rich and complex dish that seemed somewhat excessive to us. The portion was just a little too generous, but very tasty nonetheless! This two-part dish consisted of a glass with a zabaglione (better known as the French sabayon) of saffron and shrimp extract accompanied by the rice dish with shrimp that created a true explosion of flavor. This one literally hit like a bomb!

Terra = earth

The second concept dish was a tribute to the saints of Santa Maria, called “Jarret xai ibèric. This dish was served with a smile and consisted of a delectable piece of Iberian lamb, which was extremely flavorful, highly recommended for the meat lovers among us!

Món dolç = desserts

To conclude our dinner, three desserts were served, one of which consisted of two small pieces of watermelon. These served as a refreshing flavor neutralizer. Of course, the world-famous Crema Catalana was not to be missed for dessert. And to complete the Catalan culinary adventure, we were allowed to make our own with “orelletes” – a large thin crispy cake richly dusted with powdered sugar. This was accompanied by several squeeze bottles full of sweets such as condensed milk, chocolate sauce, jam and pandan paste. Very original!

Although we were full and couldn’t eat or drink anything more, we were still offered some handmade chocolates and a glass of dessert wine. We took the chocolates with us to enjoy the next day along with a strong espresso from the Nespresso coffee machine in our room.
