REVIEW: BLUE TAO BEACH HOTEL - IN A FEW STEPS WITH YOUR FEET IN THE SOFT SAND OF SAIREE BEACH!
Early 2022 we came across Blue Tao Beach Hotel pretty quickly during our online search for a good hotel in Sairee on Koh Tao for our visit in July. We were looking for the perfect hotel right on Sairee Beach, but not too far from Sairee’s Walking Street. “Found it” we thought as we delved more into Blue Tao. An added benefit we saw, the hotel has a free pick-up and drop-off service from Mae Haad Pier during check-in and check-out. After being picked up by an extremely friendly driver named Khun Sak, we arrived 15 minutes later in the lobby of the brand new-looking hotel. The hotel opened in April 2018 and still looks very fresh and is very clean.
The biggest plus point of the three-star Blue Tao Beach Hotel is its location. You stay right on the beach and you are literally in a step or two in the soft sand of Sairee Beach. If you’re looking for clean accommodation with good value for money, Blue Tao Beach Hotel is definitely one to consider!

The location on Koh Tao, right at Sairee Beach
Blue Tao Beach Hotel is located right on Koh Tao’s most popular beach. Sairee Beach is pleasantly busy but at the same time quiet because of its nearly two-kilometer-long beach. The beautiful Blue Tao overlooks the beach and the sea. On the other side of this lovely accommodation is the entrance. You walk out and find yourself on Sairee’s famous Walking Street. Here you’ll find plenty of Koh Tao‘s fine restaurants, as well as shops, massage parlors and more.
A very large 7-Eleven is a five-minute walk from the hotel. Handy for buying snacks, mosquito spray, drinks and a hundred million other things the “Seven” sells. From Blue Tao, a walk to Mae Haad is also doable. Strolling you are in the middle Mae Haad in about twenty minutes. A stay can be well combined, for example, with a diving course at one of the many diving schools in Mae Haad or Sairee.
The little, but so very fine boutique beach hotel
After being dropped off by Khun Sak, our pick-up driver, at the lobby of Blue Tao Beach Hotel, we were immediately given a welcome drink and a refreshment towel that smelled delicious. A warm (and fresh) welcome! During check-in, we were provided with the necessary information. We were given information about the hotel, its facilities and where to have breakfast.
From the lobby and (soon to be opened) beach restaurant/bar you overlook the sea, from there you only have to walk down a small flight of stairs to stand with your feet in the soft sand and warm sea water of Sairee Beach. A number of sunbeds with umbrellas have been placed in front of the hotel, which Blue Tao guests are welcome to use. Don’t forget to give the friendly three-legged dog Lucky a pet on his cute head. You’ll find him lying in the shade in front of the lobby or on the beach .
The stylish Blue Tao boutique hotel is not very big and has a total of twenty rooms divided into three different room types. The cheapest option is the Superior King City View Room, followed by the Superior King Sea View Room and finally the best room of the three, the Beachfront Room. During our pre-honeymoon, we spent four nights at the cute Blue Tao Beach Hotel. The hotel is clean, the rooms are cleaned every day and the friendly staff offer great service and are happy to give advice on the area. If we visit Koh Tao again, we will definitely come back here.
Especially in the months of July and August, Koh Tao (see these pics) is an ideal island to visit. The island combines well with the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, as well as a visit to Khao Sok National Park.
Super fun Koh Tao daytour with Khun Sak and his 4×4 pickup truck
Khun Sak not only has a taxi service, but he also organizes insanely cool tours on Koh Tao with his 4×4 pick. Together we’ve mapped out a really cool day trip that we are also allowed to offer at a Thailand Magazine discount. This way we support the locals and you have a cool tour to look forward to.
You drive to some very nice snorkeling spots like Hin Wong Bay, Tanote Bay, Shark Bay and Aow Leuk. Afterwards, you’ll also visit two viewpoints with Khun Sak. Get more information and a discount via the fill-in form in our Khun Sak article or via the Thailand Travelers WhatsApp Group. You can also send us a message via Facebook, Instagram or email to info at thailandmagazine.com.
The three different type of rooms at Blue Tao Beach Hotel
All Blue Tao rooms come with air conditioning, safe, minibar, flat-screen TV (with Netflix) and tea and coffee making facilities. We found the slow drip coffee set we received in our room every day very nice and original. We slept in two different types of rooms, the first night in the Beachfront Room and the last three nights in the Superior King Sea View Room. Both rooms were very clean, looked nice and felt brand new.

Superior King City View Room
Let’s start with the only type of room we did not sleep in. There are six Superior King City View rooms, which overlook Walking Street. The City View comes with a spacious double bed or with two separate single beds. You will find these rooms on the first floor and are divided into a bedroom and bathroom with a total area of 18 m2. The Superior King City View Room doesn’t have a balcony or terrace.
Superior King Sea View Room
Blue Tao Beach Hotel has nine Superior King Sea View rooms of 24 m2. We absolutely love this room in which we slept for three nights! The balcony with unrivaled views over the beach and sea was amazing. Every day we laid out for at least an hour on the spacious deep sofa placed on the balcony. The spacious balcony measures 3.55 x 1.65 meters. A great room that has everything for a comfortable stay on Koh Tao.
Beachfront Room
The very first night of our stay on Koh Tao and at the Blue Tao Beach Hotel and it was an instant hit! We spent our night in the Beachfront Room, the best room in the hotel. There are a total of five rooms of this type to book at this hotel. The room features a very chill net bed of a whopping 5.4 m2 on the terrace. In it, you can stretch out with two people while gazing at the sunset over the sea with a drink in your hand. The Beachfront Room at Blue Tao Beach Hotel is 30 m2, is located on the ground floor and you literally hover over Sairee beach. The ultimate room to enjoy a wonderful sunset over the Gulf of Thailand.
The sunset in our hammock of the Beachfront Room on Koh Tao was one of the many beautiful moments we experienced during our pre-marriage trip in Thailand. We will also never forget the insanely beautiful welcome surprise in the room. Never before have we been welcomed with such a beautiful flower heart in our room! Thank you, sweet lovely Blue Tao team! We enjoyed our fine stay at Blue Tao Beach Hotel. Good luck with the beautiful hotel!

Blue Jay Beach Club
Soon, Blue Tao Beach Hotel will have its own beach restaurant and club. The name will be Blue Jay Beach Club and apart from a nice breakfast or lunch, guests can also order different drinks such as cocktails and (iced) coffee. This will be an awesome place with an ocean view! More information will follow as soon as possible.
During ou stay, Blue Tao had a deal with Blue Water. Hotel guests were given a voucher and could use it to have breakfast at Blue Water. This came in handy, Blue Water we had visited before and is on our list of the best restaurants on Koh Tao.
