BEST HOTELS IN RAILAY
Railay not far from Krabi Town and Ao Nang is definitely one of our favourite destinations in all of Thailand, if we get the chance we’ll come back here! Although Railay isn’t very big, there are plenty of hotels and resorts to be found. We’ve made a selection of different types of accommodation, taking into account every budget and looking at the price/quality ratio. The result, the accommodations in Railay! By the way, we strongly advise you to plan a number of nights in Railay and not go on a day tour, why? Because if you go with the crowd you completely miss the beauty of Railay, you will only see the popular Railay at the busiest moment and that is a shame!
You can support us by booking hotels and domestic trips via 12GoAsia via our links. It will cost you nothing extra but we get a small percentage of our partners like Booking.com, Agoda and 12GoAsia. And even if you decide to book another place to sleep than we mention, if you first click on our link it doesn’t matter. Because of this we are independent and can give you honest and good advice.
DO YOU KNOW?
The best months to visit Railay are February to April (dry season). Even so, we think you can actually stay at Railay every month of the year – what a great destination this is!
BEST HOTELS IN RAILAY - MIDDLE CLASS
Railay Garden View Resort is the cheapest option from our list of the best accommodations in Railay. The resort is less centrally located, but because of this you will sleep in a quieter place on Railay East. And despite the location, the center (Railay Walking Street) is only a fifteen minute walk away. Also keep in mind that the Railay Garden View Resort is located on a mountain so it’s a short walk up. This gives you a nice view over Railay East. You don’t have to carry your luggage upstairs because there is a luggage lift available. Chances are that you’ll see the spectacle dusky leaf Monkey, a funny little monkey with white circles around the eyes.
This resort only has a cold shower, which is not very bad in the Thai heat. Breakfast is only served from November till April 20th which is included in the price.
BEST HOTELS IN RAILAY - LUXURY
Avatar Railay is an adult only resort. This means that only adults are allowed to sleep there.
If we have to choose one place to sleep from our list of best accommodations in Railay, we choose the Avatar Railay Resort! We’ve slept here several times already and keep coming back. It’s a combination of factors that makes this resort so great. First of all the incredibly sympathetic and friendly manager, then the spacious rooms with a very spacious double bed, the location in relation to our favorite beach (Phra Nang Beach) and finally the price/quality ratio. In this resort you can also stay in a room with pool access. You can then dive right into the pool from your terrace! If you want to read more about Avatar Railay, check out our full article about this great resort in Railay!
Even if you don’t sleep here you can relax in the garden in the evening with a cocktail in your hand and live music in the background!
The name suggests it, and indeed from this resort you have a beautiful view over East Railay. And even though Railay Great View Resort is the furthest away from civilization from our list of accommodations in Railay, we still think this location deserves a place in this list! The infinity pool gives you a great view over the ocean just like most rooms. We once walked here ourselves and it’s quite a walk and climb to this location but it’s definitely worth it! The resort is located on a nice spot in Railay and if you want to spend the night in a quiet area then this is the place to be.
What friendly people work at the Sunrise Tropical Resort! Both the manager (2018 & 2019) of the accompanying restaurant and of the resort itself are at your service at all times and will be happy to give you tips to make your visit to Railay even more enjoyable! Besides the good service, the location is also super! You can easily walk from the Sunrise Tropical Resort to Phra Nang Beach, but the beach at Railay West can also be reached in about ten minutes on foot. The rooms are spacious and you can also choose from several triple rooms which is handy if you are travelling with a child. Another advantage of this resort is that it is close to the floating pier from where you can travel to islands like Phuket, Phi Phi and Koh Yao Yai.
The Sunrise Tropical Restaurant has a beautiful view over the bay of Railay East and you can enjoy lunch and / or dinner even if you do not sleep in the hotel.
On the strip of restaurants, hotels and bars along Railay East you will also find the Bhu Nga Thani Resort & Spa. And just by walking past this fine resort you think to yourself: “What would it be like to stay here? You walk along a beautiful swimming pool and everything looks immaculately cared for. But also inside everything is very neat, the rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable! The rooms have a balcony or terrace where you can chill out. Would you like to book the ultimate relaxing book then a treatment at the Bhu Nga Spa. Here you can completely unwind in the steam room and / or enjoy a professional massage.
What an amazing time did we had at the great Railay Village Resort & Spa! If you have the budget we definitely recommend this resort! The staff is extremely friendly and the tropical plants and trees dotted area is really beautiful! There are two swimming pools of which we found one really magnificent, in the evening this large pool is also fairytale lit. The restaurant of this resort is located on the beach of Railay West. This allows you to have breakfast, lunch and dinner overlooking the sea and the fascinating surroundings of Railay! If you want to know why this resort belongs in our list of best accommodations in Railay, read our extensive article about Railay Village Resort & Spa!
BEST HOTELS IN RAILAY - SUPER LUXURY
In the list of best accommodations in Railay, the world-famous Rayavadee can’t be missed! This is the only resort adjacent to both Railay East and Phra Nang Beach, which says something about the size of the site! This resort is not exactly cheap because the cheapest villa starts at € 367, – per night. The most expensive option is the family villa with private pool, for this you pay “only” € 1,902, – per night. Clearly a resort that doesn’t suites everyone, but if you have the financial means and / or you have something to celebrate then you probably do not want to miss Rayavadee. So if you are planning a honeymoon in Thailand (congratulations!) then staying overnight in Railay with Rayavadee is definitely one to remember! Rayavadee also has a very special restaurant (The Grotto) on Phra Nang Beach where you can dine romantically by the sea under a large limestone rock. You can read more about this restaurant in our article “Best restaurants in Railay”.

Not a real restaurant but if you want a quick snack or a delicious crispy roti pancake you have to visit Abdul. Located at the beginning of Railay Walking Street from Railay West.
- Kohinoor Indian Restaurant
For years in the top three of TripAdvisor and that’s not for nothing. Delicious Indian food in the centre of Railay Walking Street.
- The Grotto
Part of the super-luxury Rayavadee. Dine in style at a unique location. It looks like you’re a guest in a cave here.
- Govinda’s at the Beach

- De snackbootjes op Phra Nang Beach
Not a restaurant but so special that food belongs in this list. Order some food on the longtail boat and it will be prepared in front of you on the same boat. You can also come here for a refreshing drink! TOP!
Railay does not have large clubs or other large-scale entertainment venues, but that’s the charm of Railay! Is there nothing to do in the evening? Sure there is! In Railay Walking Street there are a number of bars where you can chill out and have a drink. Along Railay East is a (partly elevated) concrete path where a number of nice bars can be found. Almost at the end of the concrete path is the Tew Lay Bar. This bar has a very cool terrace with beautiful views over the bay of Railay East. To get there you keep following the path of Railay East in a northerly direction. The Tew Lay Bar is a bit further than the Last Bar (which is not the last bar). From the floating pier on the east side of Railay you are about 10 minutes away. Have fun!
