Have you ever seen James Cameron’s movie Avatar? We did and that is why we understand all too well what Avatar Railay Resort has based its name on! No, no blue creatures work in Avatar Railay, but the surroundings of this resort resemble the cliffs and rocks that can be seen in that movie. The environment of this resort is so incredibly beautiful and that is one of the many reasons why we think you should have slept here! Read on for more reasons to come!
Near Phra Nang Beach!
It’s not only the beautiful surroundings of the Avatar Railay Resort but also the location. During our stay in Railay we didn’t want to sleep too far from Phra Nang Beach, our favorite beach in this area! Because of this we were looking for a good hotel in Railay East. For this area it’s a maximum 10 minute walk to one of our favorite beaches in the whole of Thailand.

Situated at Railay East
Because Avatar Railay is on the east side of Railay, this may not seem as practical as taking the longtail boat from Ao Nang. You will then arrive at Railay West. Despite that it’s only a 10 minute walk to Avatar. And if you arrive, for example, from Krabi Town, Koh Yao Yai, Koh Lanta or Koh Phi Phi, Avatar is ideal because the pier for those locations is right next door! You will be in the garden of the resort within two minutes! If you want to travel to Koh Phi Phi or Koh Lanta after your visit to Railay, then you will also be back at the pier of departure.

Railay as a stopover
Last time we slept at the Avatar Railay Resort we came from Khao Sok where we first drove to Ao Nang with a shared minivan. From Ao Nang we took a longtail boat where we arrived at Krabi Railay Beach after fifteen minutes of sailing. After having enjoyed this wonderful and beautiful place for almost a week, we traveled on a speedboat to Koh Yao Yai. Then we went to Koh Phi Phi and then to Koh Lanta. Finally, it was the turn of the Trang Islands (Koh Ngai, Koh Kradan and Koh Mook). From there we returned to Ao Nang and as the final destination Bangkok. What a wonderful trip this was!!

Welcome to the Avatar Railay Resort
Once we arrived, after a longtail boat trip, on the beach of Railay West. We moved on by foot, and after a short walk through Walking Street we arrived on the footpath of Railay East. From here we walked into the grounds of the Avatar Railay hotel within two minutes. At the check-in we were given a refreshing drink and we were given an explanation about the resort. We and our luggage were then taken to the room reserved by us.
Deluxe double room with pool view
The last time we slept at the Avatar Railay Resort we were surprised to get an upgrade. We had booked a Deluxe room with pool view because we had slept in this room a number of times in the past. We were already very excited to arrive in this room because we knew exactly what to expect. The room is extraordinarily spacious and has all the amenities you need for a perfect stay. There is a giant bed in the room (seriously there must be two double duvets). And it is not lacking in the luxury of a mini fridge, safe and TV, even though we never use the latter when we are in Thailand. In the room there is also a cupboard where you can store things. Here you will also find bathrobes, towels and a beach bag containing two large beach towels. Always handy for a day at the beach!
Upon entering the Deluxe room you immediately find on your left and right side a separate small space hidden behind a swing door. Behind door # 1 you will find the shower and behind door # 2 the toilet. The sink is at the beginning of the room and includes extras like a shaving mirror and a hair dryer. There is also enough space to put your own personal care products. Because the “bathroom” is divided into three separate components, the room feels extra spacious and with 35 m2 of surface, it is that too!
DID YOU KNOW?
In Thailand today, the environment is increasingly being considered. The well-known 7-Elevens will no longer give away plastic bags as of 1 January 2020 and the Avatar Railay Resort is also doing its utmost for a better world. In the rooms there are cups instead of plastic bottles that you can fill at the water dispenser in the hallway. Also, plastic straws will soon no longer be used at the resort. Good things!!

In addition to the gigantic spacious room, there is another reason why we love to sleep in the Deluxe room! The Deluxe Pool View rooms have a very nice balcony with comfortable lounge sofa! After you have pushed away the blackout curtains, lace curtain and large glass door, you end up on the balcony overlooking the swimming pool. A wonderful place to relax with a good book and / or drink. The drying rack on the balcony then ensures that your swimsuits and beach towel can quickly dry up again for your next visit to the beach!
Back to our happy moment, the upgrade, instead of the Deluxe room overlooking the pool, we got the same room but on the ground floor. We knew that this could only mean one thing … pool access!!! The result, waking up every morning and immediately jump into the pool. That is waking up in style!!
Rooms with private pool
If you prefer a swimming pool entirely for yourself, you can choose to book a suite or villa with a private swimming pool. The suite is at the end of the resort and is 70 m2 in size. The villa is located against the garden in front of the Avatar Railay Resort and is no less than 82 m2. Are you going on a honeymoon, do you have something to celebrate or do you just have the budget to unwind, then one of these two rooms is for you! Certainly at such a phenomenal destination as Krabi Railay Beach!

Breakfast at Avatar Railay
Once we woke up from the refreshing dip in the pool, we had breakfast at the Avatar Railay Bistrobar. The Bistro bar has a roof but is otherwise fully open and overlooks the garden of the Avatar Railay Resort. And whether you like a Thai or Western breakfast, it is all possible here. From toast with jam to rice and from a tasty egg to fresh fruit. A good start to the day!
Dinner and afterparty in the Avatar Railay Bistrobar
In the evening the food party really starts at the Avatar Railay Bistrobar! You can also dine here where many guests from outside come to eat in this restaurant. That can only be a good sign and it also makes it a cozy intention in the restaurant. There is a lot of choice of starter, main and desserts. We had the calamari and bruschetta in advance, a pasta and massaman curry as main course and then ice cream and a lava cake. A delicious meal in a casual atmosphere. Care for some more after enjoying a superb meal and a good cup of coffee? Time for a cocktail with live music in a relaxed setting with nice people around you!
Happy Hour & Avatar Ambiance
Just before dinner time, bean bags are scattered in the garden and the mood lights come on. A happy moment because from 17.00 to 20.00 it’s Happy Hour! During Happy Hour at the Avatar Railay Bistrobar you get two cocktails for the price of one that you can choose from a pre-selected list. In addition, there is a musician every night who sings covers and plays his guitar. This makes Avatar Railay a really nice place where you can easily get in touch with other guests. Also with outside guests who come here alone for a cocktail and a pleasant evening out. In the evening there is a very nice mood due to the many atmospheric lighting that is available in the garden, this creates a pleasant and fairytale Avatar Ambiance!

Railay does not have large clubs or other large-scale entertainment venues, but that’s the charm of Railay! Is there nothing to do in the evening? Sure there is! In Railay Walking Street there are a number of bars where you can chill out and have a drink. Along Railay East is a (partly elevated) concrete path where a number of nice bars can be found. Almost at the end of the concrete path is the Tew Lay Bar. This bar has a very cool terrace with beautiful views over the bay of Railay East. To get there you keep following the path of Railay East in a northerly direction. The Tew Lay Bar is a bit further than the Last Bar (which is not the last bar). From the floating pier on the east side of Railay you are about 10 minutes away. Have fun!
Everything there is to see and do in Railay you can read in our extensive article aboutwhat to do in this beautiful area. About 15 minutes by longtail boat from Krabi Town and the coastal village of Ao Nang.
