Review Anantara Golden Triangle Spa
Enjoy a unique spa treatment during one of Northern Thailand’s most luxurious locations.
A visit to the Golden Triangle of Thailand had been on our wish list for a long time, so when the day of our visit to this tri-border point between Thailand, Myanmar and Laos was getting closer and closer we decided to combine it with another item on our wish list. Thus, a visit to the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort became a reality. Unfortunately not yet for a couple of nights, we’ll save that for next time, but for a visit to their famous spa, the Anantara Golden Triangle Spa.

Where is the Anantara Golden Triangle Spa located?
The name gives it away: this spa is part of the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort, located just a five-minute drive from the famous landmark, the Golden Triangle. The greenery of the surrounding jungle is beautifully visible from the separate building that houses the spa. The serene peace that prevails here is immediately felt and immediately invites you to relax!
Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort
The Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort exudes pure luxury and is a striking accommodation in the unique setting of the Golden Triangle. In all of Northern Thailand, it is hard to find a resort that offers the same splendor and grandeur as this gem. The resort, erected in Lanna style, is nestled in the heart of the jungle and features numerous public areas. A high-end restaurant, an ornate outdoor pool and, of course, the spa we came for – they are all part of this magnificent accommodation.

There are three different types of rooms available for guests seeking ultimate luxury. For those actually looking for something unique, the resort also offers sleeping accommodations in their exclusive Jungle Bubbles – an experience you will never forget!
More information about the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort can be found through Booking.com and/or Agoda.

Elephant Camp
Although we do not usually promote things related to elephants, there are some organizations in Thailand that we can state with complete certainty that they are legitimate. As for Anantara, we cannot offer this assurance to the full 100% either. We only have experience with the spa locally, but it seems incomprehensible to us that the Minor Group, the company behind the Anantara brand, may not want to commit to a delicate issue such as elephant exploitation. Therefore, it would make sense to spend some more time on site in the future and have the opportunity to discuss this issue with management.

Anantara Golden Triangle Spa
The Anantara Golden Triangle Spa, designed in the traditional northern Thai (Lanna) style with natural materials such as wood, bamboo and stone. Upon entering, one immediately notices the high ceiling, giving a sense of freedom and spaciousness. We were welcomed into a beautiful lobby where we took a seat on a spacious rocking sofa for our intake interview.
Several cabinets are richly stocked with all kinds of wellness products used during the sessions. A nice touch is that you get the chance to purchase these products and take them home with you – so you can enjoy the wonderful wellness sensation of Anantara Golden Triangle Spa for longer.

The facilities at Anantara Golden Triangle Spa
The luxurious Anantara Golden Triangle Spa consists of three couple treatment rooms, each equipped with two comfortable massage beds in a room that exudes serene tranquility. Adjacent to each treatment room, you’ll find an elegant bathroom. This features an inviting shower and steam room designed for ultimate well-being and relaxation.
The outer portion of the room offers something truly spectacular: a huge circular Jacuzzi, sunk into the terrace. A delight to relax by while soaking in the delicious bubble and enjoying the phenomenal view during the day.
A funny and practical addition we appreciated was the small gong in the hallway. This allows you to subtly attract the therapist’s attention when you have finished changing, for example.

Anantara Golden Triangle Spa's different wellness treatments
The Anantara Golden Triangle Spa team offers a diverse range of wellness treatments. These include two unique “Spa Journeys”: the 150-minute “Golden Triangle Experience” and the three-hour “Journey of Siam.” In addition, lucky guests can choose from a variety of massages including Hot Stone, Thai Herbal Compress and the traditional Thai Massage, ranging in duration from one to one and a half hours.
In addition, guests can soak in one of three different “Steam & Bath Rituals,” each lasting half an hour, or choose from six unique body treatments. In short, an extensive selection of treatments and rituals that positively impact the body and mind!

Guests can also book three unique “Signature Experiences” at the Anantara Golden Triangle Spa. One is the 135-minute Mahout Relaxation Package. This package includes a Floral Foot Ritual, a Thai Herbal Compress Massage, a Golden Silk Facial and is rounded off with an invigorating treatment. In addition, the spa offers the comprehensive 180-minute Lanna Experience. This begins with a Floral Foot Ritual, followed by a Poo Loey Scrub, Poo Loey Wrap and a Poo Loey Massage. As with the previous package, this comprehensive wellness session ends with an invigorating final treatment.
Poo Loey, also known as Plai, is a variety of ginger that has been used for hundreds of years by the Lanna people – the original inhabitants of the area where the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort is now located.

Yam Khang Massage - the Thai fire foot massage
Unfortunately, booking a traditional Yam Khang Massage was no longer possible when we visited the Anantara Golden Triangle Spa, the specialized masseur had already gone home. This massage technique is also known as Thai foot fire massage. This involves the massage therapist dipping his foot in a combination of salt and oil, which is then heated over flames. After this heating, the masseur uses his foot to apply pressure to the body of the person undergoing this unique massage treatment.

Our wellness treatment at Anantara Golden Triangle Spa
Ilonka chose three treatments of one hour each from the extensive spa menu: the “Essence White Coconut Mint Wrap,” an “Anantara Signature Facial” and an “Indian Head Massage.” Afterwards, I heard that she was very sorry to be left alone for about half an hour during the “Essence White Coconut Mint Wrap,” perhaps this is part of this treatment?
I decided to go for my first Hot Stone Massage; an hour and a half session. To finish, I underwent the Cannabis Restful Slumber Journey treatment. The Hot Stone Massage was extremely pleasant and definitely worthwhile. definitely a massage to repeat, but personally I did not find the Cannabis Restful Slumber Journey a success – pure marketing in my opinion.

Price-quality
Of course, if you are used to the luxury of a roughly sloppy € 1,000 per night in a magnificent resort, then € 500 for a six-hour spa treatment seems like a bargain. However, this is not day-to-day business. We recommend treating yourself to this kind of extraordinary experience on special occasions, such as a honeymoon or other days when you like to celebrate life extra.
The Anantara Golden Triangle Spa team stands out for their friendliness and professionalism. Their masseurs are highly experienced and have received expert training in various massages and beauty treatments. However, thanks to wellness experiences during our Mae Hong Son run, we noted that a treatment at Anantara Golden Triangle Spa can be on the expensive side. We had five amazing wellness experiences in those two weeks, many of which were comparable in quality. While the price may be higher, the environment and experience at the Anantara Golden Triangle Resort is second to none, especially in daylight….
