ABOVE ELEVEN

If you think that all the Bangkok’s sky bars are the same then you are wrong, Above Eleven proves it! This sky bar is special because Above Eleven is inspired by the world famous Central Park in New York! This can be seen in vertical gardens, artificial grass and metal trees that have a double function as a parasol. To enter the sky bar you first have to go through a mini maze of hedges, you won’t get lost, but it’s a nice entrance!

Above Eleven can be find in the middle of the lively Sukhumvit area on top of the Fraser Suites. The glass balustrades ensure that you can fully enjoy the skyline from the 33rd and 34th floors. Among other things, you have a view of Sukhumvit Soi 11, hence the name Above Eleven! Nearby your find great restaurants, massage parlors and a number of clubs where you can party until late at night. But also at Above Eleven you can take your feet off the floor. The amazing view from Above Eleven!

On both floors of Above Eleven are along the entire glass balustrade tables for 2/3 persons, you have a fantastic view over the skyline of Bangkok. When you dare to look down from your high chair, you can see through the glass into the depths!  If you want to dine here romantically or just want to be sure of such a nice spot, a reservation is highly recommended, because these tables are of course often fully booked! For groups there are also atmospheric spots with spacious benches available under the ‘trees’ of Above Eleven.

Nikkei

Above Eleven not only has a beautiful view, but also a special menu, which consists of a mix of Peruvian Japanese cuisine, also known as Nikkei. We had never heard of it, but after some research we found out that it is a kitchen with a story. Because of the promise of work around 1900, thousands of Japanese came to Peru. These Japanese couldn’t find the ingredients they were used to in Peru. That’s why they started to adapt the Peruvian kitchen little by little to their own taste with the ingredients that were available and Nikkei was born, Nikkei is Japanese for immigrant. To get acquainted with these special dishes, Above Eleven has a Peruvian Discovery tasting menu for 2 people for 1,800 baht (2018). See the menu from February 2020.

Nikkei cocktails

Above Eleven has not only Nikkei cuisine, but also Nikkei cocktails, such as the Nikkei Caipirinha, with Capucana cachaça (Brazilian rum), melon liqueur, lemongrass, lime juice and lime Pisco (400 baht). If you do more of the type but are crazy enough, you can also order tasty beers like Duvel or Singha for 300/180 baht. Above Eleven has a very extensive drinks menu, so there’s bound to be something you’ll like!

Sleeping in or near Sukhumvit Soi 11 – which hotel

Sukhumvit Soi 11 is a street near BTS Station Nana, so you can easily explore Bangkok on your own. From BTS Nana it is about a 10 minute walk to Above Eleven. Sukhumvit Soi 11 is a street with great restaurants, discotheques, bars and massage parlors. The street is nice if you like liveliness. Good to know is that the massage parlors in this street sometimes offer other services, the Thai girls at the bars are probably not waiting for the bus. During the day you don’t notice much of this, but when evening falls it starts to get more noticeable. Nevertheless, we have never felt unsafe in this street and with the BTS Sky Train we were able to discover the rest of Bangkok.
